...Day 2 Spring Baskets

Good morning, this is a long post! You may need coffee/tea!

On Thursday I will be releasing 4 new clear photopolymer stamp sets!!! and today I'd like to introduce you to Spring Baskets!

Yesterday Belinda and Laurie peeked some of the images from Spring Baskets and today Anya and Julia get in on the fun

My first card uses the basket image paired with the floral group that you might have spotted on Laurie's blog yesterday. A very simple bit of masking allows the leaves of the floral bouquet to overspill the basket at the front. At the end of this post I'll show you how I did that. All of the other 'basket filler' images in the set my be simply stamped into the basket and do not require any special masking. They're easy peasy.

I stamped my basket and flowers in Memento rich coffee ink and coloured with copics.

See that teeny butterfly?, that's a separate stamp so you can stamp him anywhere! I have him basking on a flower. He has two mini bumble bee buddies in the set! I just love being able to add a little life to a bouquet in this way. It's a left-over from when my father would have my mother add a little fox or pheasant to her oil paintings, he always said that all pictures should have a little life in them no matter how small! lol, I liked that.

I used a white gel pen to pop a few highlights onto the leaves etc.

Below you can see how I sliced around the bottom edge of the overhanging leaves with my scalpel and sort of curled them up a little, I think it helps add a little depth, along with the bow, I just stamped the basket handle again and cut out the bow, raising the loops a little when I stuck it onto the coloured basket.

I cut the image out with a classic circle Spellbinders die. I used a slightly larger circle die to emboss a frame into the card base. then I masked the embossing and stamped some polka dots from the Off Beat Backgrounds set in versamark. A strip of green ribbon and the card was done! I left off a sentiment as I quite often need a card in a hurry and I can put whatever sentiment I need on the inside at a later date.

A neat trick that you can do with the basket image from this set is to make it into a tall, fancy basket by adding the little urn image to the bottom of the basket. Again, I will show you how to do this at the end of this post, it's a super easy thing to do and gives you two completely different styles of basket, and you also have the little urn image that works well with the daffodil image and the floral group from the first card.

I used mine to make a card for my mum. The sentiment, also from Spring Baskets, would be good for Mother's Day or a birthday or just because.

I used Memento rich cocoa again and copics. This time I made a tall basket and filled it with daffodils, a true spring flower.

I coloured an large bow, a separate stamp, and cut it out to place on the front of the basket before simply stamping the sentiment underneath. As I was outlining my coloured image with a pale grey copic to help ground it, I decided to outline the word Mum just to give it a little more emphasis.

I really love how this image looks when it's all coloured up! The basket weave pattern on the basket and urn makes my simple colouring look like it took a long time. You could really work this up and add shadows and highlights but i simply applied a pale tan allover the basket and then went back in with a darker tan and filled in the negative shapes, it was done in a flash.

If you look at the bow that I cut out (see below) I coloured the edges with the yellow copic after I cut it out, it makes the cut image look so much neater, you don't get little white raw edges catching your eye!

My last basket card today features the tall version of the basket again but this time it holds some lovely decorative eggs! I just love this basket, I love complimentary colours together, the orange and blue have a real zing, and it's absolutely nothing to do with the spring coloured hole in my copic collection!!! lol, I'm itching to colour some baby pink and soft blue/green eggs but the LSS where I get my copics was all out of spring shades!! aarg!

I do like the orange and turquoise tho, I used a separate single egg stamp to make the background patterned paper, all three eggs featured in the basket come as separate whole-egg stamps too!

A fancy Spellbinders tag die cut holds the sentiment also from Spring Baskets.

The How-to-s

Basket of flowers with overhanging leaves.

Start by stamping the floral group onto your cardstock.

Stamp it again onto a post-it note. Trim out the image on the post it note. you can see that I only needed to trim closely around the bottom. I just cut close to the edge around the top but didn't worry about the ins and outs. Stick the post-it note image right on top of the stamped image on your cardstock. Take a second to make sure it's lined up as best you can.

Stamp the basket image over the floral group as shown above. When you remove the post-it note mask you will have a lovely basket full of flowers. See the first card, this was the exact image I used to make it.

To make the tall basket

First stamp the urn image.

Take a post it note and lay it across the urn so that there's only a little of the top of the rim peeping out. See the photo below.

Stamp the basket image over the post it note. I like to line it up so that the footer of the basket is completely on the post it note. This way the footer is eliminated from the final image and the lip of the urn makes a row of decorative weaving across the basket. Couldn't be easier.

Hope it tickles!!!

Don't forget to join me tomorrow for more samples and links to the DT ladies who will be joining me in introducing the new stamps for this release. And, bookmark Thursday you won't want to miss the blog hop and prizes!!

Thank you for stopping by and now that I 've used up your morning you are free to go!!!lol!!

...Feb 2010 release Day 1

Kicking off my samples for this release are 'the guys' - I LOVE these wee chicks.

Once you've had a peep here, pop over to Belinda's and Laurie's to see what they're previewing today!! And don't forget to call back tomorrow, I'll have more samples and links to more DT previews!! AND - you won't want to miss Thursday's release!! we'll be having another blog hop!! There will be eye candy galore and PRIZES to be won!!

From the soon to be released set L'il Buddies, these guys are two separate stamps, so you can team them up here for when you might need two chicks. I've used them to make a card to welcome twins, I know twins don't pop up every day but the sentiment was so minimal it hardly took up any room in the set and since the guys are separate, they can be used loads of different ways.

I stamped them in memento Paris Dusk, I cheated slightly by inking the stamps with the rich cocoa first so's the blue would be even darker and then I coloured them with copics.

I used the knitted border frame from another new set Vintage circles 2 to frame the l'il guys and then cut them out with a spellbinders classic circle from the Classic circles small set.

I made a center band with cream card stamped with the knit texture from Faux Fun (available here) and wrapped a little co-ordinating ribbon around. I stamped the card base with the chequerboard stamp from Off Beat Backgrounds (available here) in versamark just to give the card some depth.

Inside I used the knit frame again and the sentiment 'how tweet!' - which is also suitable for plenty other occasions.

I thought green was a good choice for this 'get well soon card', lol.
I used another stamp from L'il Buddies, the chick pecking at crumbs, together with the sentiment 'feeling crummy?' I 'highlighted' the word crummy with a copic marker that toned with the green card.

Inside the card, one of the chicks from the first card stands beside the punny sentiment 'hope you re-coop soon' geddit?? lol, I'm just cracking myself up!! lol. I'm sorry, I can hear you groaning! I just love punny sentiments! Again a co-ordinating copic marker highlights the pun. I like this casual touch for these punny cards.

This third card completes my trio of chick cards for today, the chick in egg stamp is a complete stamp. The plain egg stamp comes from the Spring Baskets set but matches the chick's egg so I used it here to make a little pattern. I coloured with copics. A simple sentiment completes the card. I really need some more copics, could have done with a darker pink to round out those eggs, they look pretty in real life but the photo really flattens them!!!

Hope they tickle and I hope to see you back here again tomorrow for more!! Thanks for stopping by!

...nearly there now

This is the last peek before we get started on samples!! Tomorrow should finally see some cards on this ole blog, believe me, I am not happy about the lack of stuff I've been posting lately but there has been such a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on that life has literally been a whirlwind!

I'm not complaining tho', it's all good stuff that needs done and hopefully once it's done it'll just be a matter of maintenance!! (she said...lol)

Anyhow, today's peek is a little look at the 4th set, it's also a circles set. Since I started WMS I have been receiving stamp design requests, this delights me. I am, essentially, a selfish soul and it is way too easy for me to concentrate on designing the stamps that I want and forget that folks might just have other requirements, my solution to this? Do both.

I will always produce those stamps that I have been looking for and not yet found, I will design at least a few of my sets on pure whim, do not be surprised to find me releasing Christmas stamps in Springtime, but I will always greedily listen to any suggestions that folks may have, I am nosey, I love to hear what you think, what you need. I find it incredibly fascinating that a word from someone can spark a whole stamp set in my mind, as it was with Joan and the Little Box Labels set or Bonnie and the knitted texture in Faux Fun!! I delight in the inspiration that only you can provide.

And so this month I have not one but TWO circle stamp sets!! I have had many, many requests for circles and I felt it was only fair that I make them easy to cut out - that's why they combine beautifully with the Spellbinders circles and some of the most commonly used punches!

So, pop by tomorrow for some long overdue eye candy and inspiration!!!

...is it spring yet?

I'm so excited to show you all this set!! it's called Spring Baskets, and it's one of the 4 new clear stamp sets I'm releasing next Thursday!

There are a total of 34 stamps in this set and it is full of versatility, Of course it's going to be perfect for Easter and Mother's Day cards, tags etc, but the stamps have been designed so that you can use it throughout the year.

I am working with this set at the moment and there are sooo many possibilities! The flowers are a separate stamp from the basket! and there are lots of other goodies that can be put 'into' the basket as well! There is also another basket option that I'm excited about but you'll need to pop back to see my card samples - they'll be starting on Sunday!

And the bee!!! the wee bumble bee is a wee tiny separate stamp - AND - he has buddies!!!

So hope this tickles, thanks for stopping by!!

...snow day!

We get a little snow most years but it's been a long time since it has been so frosty for so many days in a row. The trees are still iced up even in the middle of the day!

This morning my DH thought it would be a good idea to take the kids sledging at a park. It's a very nice park, but it's 10 times prettier in the snow.

So, despite my protestations of pain and discomfort (I had a hot date with my dentist yesterday, it ended badly lol - I'm a complete weed) off we went at 10 this morning.

It was lovely. Here's a few pics.

My wee folk playing at being huskies!

I love the colour of this green tree bark against the snow. It is so vivid. So, what's it like where you are? I hope the snow lasts a bit longer - I know, I know, I shouldn't...but I do! lol! Back tomorrow with a card!

Friday, 8 January 2010

...hey sweet thing!

Well I survived the dentist but I'm feeling rather bleh! I'll post this card because I had it prepared already but I'm not up for chatting...lol.

Background uses my newly released Faux Fun set and the heart and sentiment are from Sweethearts.

Many thanks for looking, chat to you soon.

...Vintage Valentine

Last night my DH put the wee folk to bed which gave me a little while to play with my new stamps!!! I'm so excited about the Faux Fun set which released in my store the day before yesterday - scroll down to see the artwork for this set. It's a pre-order and will ship from next week - I pulled it forward to go with my Sweethearts set!

I used the large broderie anglaise border to make the faux ribbon for across the front of the card, I love the look of this vintage effect you get by using the second impression. I used Memento rhubarb, which is one of my favourite colours. The first impression was a little strong and so I ended up making the entire card using the second impressions. I'll bet there's a name for this and I don't know it.

I trimmed out the border roughly by hand and then distressed it with with a knife edge. Alternatively it could have been trimmed with a corner rounder, see here.

I made the patterned background by stamping the lace border from Faux Fun a couple of times behind where I wanted the broderie anglaise border to be. Above that I made a sort of negative version of the broderie aglaise border by using a clever little stamp from the Faux Fun set - if you look at the artwork for the set - it's the second stamp down on the right hand side. If you stamp it repeatedly beside itself you get a pretty, simple border in the same style as the solid border. I used my favourite Antique linen Ink for this (Ranger) I also smooched around the edges with antique linen and rhubarb.

The main focal point was the heart stamp from Seasons of love - Tags, together with a sentiment from the set, stamped in rich cocoa, second impression, memento ink.

I finished off with two little hearts from the Sweethearts set, both stamped in rhubarb but one distressed a little by pressing it against the lace border stamp before making the impression. Hand trimmed and distressed.

I love how the colours worked for this, so soft. Hope it tickles!!

Don't forget!!

Folks whose orders go through before midnight tonight stand a chance of winning their entire shopping cart for free!!!!!!! I will announce a winner at some point tomorrow, my apologies for being vague but I have a scary dental appointment tomorrow and can't guarantee just at what point I'll be lucid enough to post!! lol, wish me luck!!!

NEW stamp sets released! - Sweethearts and Faux Fun

ED - you must pop over to Anya's right now and look at this!!

ED - I've been using the large EK success punch - oops didn't realize there were several pink ones, obviously there are holes in my stamping arsenal that must be filled forthwith!! lol, apologies for the confusion!!

Welcome to the January 2010 release!! Today, in fact right now, I am releasing two new sets of clear photopolymer stamps!! Here they are:

Set size - 6 x 8 inches

Lace - I love lace! It's such a fab border to add to many different types of cards/scrapbooks and altered items.

There is one fancy lace border and two sizes of broderie anglaise borders and look for the neat trimming trick on my blog!!!! you can 'cut out' the broderie anglaise borders with a basic EK success corner punch, just remove the guard an use it as a scallop punch! See the blog for more details!! Extra broderie anglaise details mean that you can create focal points to complement your borders!

Just a word of advice - you WILL need to stamp the broderie anglaise borders with the help of a piece of fun foam or an upturned mouse mat under your cardstock or you will not get an even impression. Again see my blog post for advice.

Also included in the set is a huge Knitted pattern background/border stamp. A matching, heavier weight knitted panel and a little row of knitted stitches for extra emphasis.

The fancy lace border measures just under 6 and 1/4 inches long. The large knitted panel measures 2 inches by 5 and 3/4 inches, the broderie anglaise borders are each 6 and 7/8 inches long.

Set is 6x8 inches

A set of Lovey-dovey stamps to use when you're making up your Valentines treats, Anniversary cards, treats for the wee folk or just for a good old I-love-you type cards!

A host of sentiments good for the insides of cards as well as the front, including the much looked for (by me) "Guess who?", and "from your secret admirer".

A large dotty heart compatible with the EK success heart punch (the pink one) and 3 sizes of 'plain' hearts suitable for the 'kissing' technique! see HERE, LOL, Ideal for making patterned hearts to match your project backgrounds! These hearts do not match the spellbinders hearts they are a different proportion, for a heart to match spellbinders see the Seasons of Love - Tags set.

Also included is an elegant bow and arrow and lone arrow, just right for piercing any colour of heart you care to stamp! lol.

The 'Hey! sweet thing' sentiment measures just under 2 and 1/2 inches long by 3/4 inches tall. The arrow measures just under 2 and 1/2 inches long.

The sets can be purchased by visiting my store, click on the image to pop over.

All sets retail at an amazing £13.50 sterling each - check out how many images and sentiments are in each set!! (approx US $21.61, Canada $22.44, Euro 14.95, Australian $23.68 - all values approximate as of 5th Jan 2010 and subject to change - source, XE.com)

And yes! - I ship everywhere, lol.

Scroll down and bask with me in the reflected glow of love produced by my DT l
adies this week!!! LOL

...January 2010 Release Day 3 - any frill seekers out there?

Well we're on the home straight. Later today, around 7pm my time, I will open both new photopolymer stamp sets for sale in my store. BUT - and please note the following:

As Faux Fun was originally scheduled to release next month, it will be around a week until I have it in stock and so it will not ship until next week. The exact day will be confirmed later.

So, Folks ordering Faux fun as part of their order, should be aware that their entire order will be held until I have the Faux Fun sets in stock for shipping.

In effect folks will be pre-ordering Faux Fun. This also means that folks who wanted to wait on Faux Fun won't risk losing out on the Sweethearts set should it sell out.

I decided to do this so that anyone who wants Faux Fun and Sweethearts can order them together and combine shipping. Folks who don't have Faux Fun in their orders can expect their orders to ship pretty much immediately as normal.

So on with the show! (And don't forget to click on the DT blogs today, Julia, Anya, Belinda and Bonnie all have treats in store!)

First up is a wee basket for Valentines treats! Every time I look at this the annoying term 'Simple pimple' creeps into my head. I read it in one of my daughter's books and I can't get it out of my head! lol.

The simple bit is that you base your basket on a jar lid. So long as your jar lid isn't much over 3 inches in diameter you'll be able to get the sides out of one sheet of cardstock with no joins. You simply use the jar lid as a base and stick the card around the side with extra strong double sided tape. If you're a fussy type like me you'll have first drawn around the lid and cut out a circle to stick on the bottom. On the inside fill the bottom with a little shredded tissue, they'll never see it!

Simply cut a strip of card as high as you want your basket to be and decorate it at will!! I clear embossed the lace border several times on the strip before adding my frilly bits!

Take a peep first at the wee handle, that's the smaller Broderie Anglaise border from Faux Fun! I love that soft cotton fabric with little embroidered pinholes and tiny flower motifs and I created two borders for this set based on it.

I wanted the border specifically so's i could white emboss it onto coloured card and I love the effect but it's also good for plain stamping.

However the Broderie Anglaise borders do come with a Health warning!! LOL. You will absolutely need to stamp them using a piece of fun foam or an upturned mouse mat under your cardstock as they are fairly solid stamps or, believe me, you will not get a good impression. - This tip is good for all solid stamps, like the witch in the Halloween Party set! You can see my example below - here, I've stamped the wider broderie anglaise border on cardstock placed on an upturned mouse mat - it turns out great.

When I first got them I was too lazy to go looking for some fun foam and so I stamped...and stamped...and stamped some more, and then went looking for the fun foam. You just will not get a consistent impression unless you do this. I don't care how heavy you think you are, or whether you can balance your entire weight on the stamp, it just won't wash. You need the foam, or a mouse mat.

Both Broderie Anglaise borders have also been designed so's it is possible to 'trim' them out using a simple EK success corner rounder punch - it's the wee green one that you can take the guide off and use for scalloping paper!!

I used mine to trim either side of the embossed border to make the scalloped handle! Trim the card just over 1/8th of an inch away from the outermost points of the border and then pencil a little dot along the edge at the mid point of each outward curve of the stamp. See the pics for help!

To make the frillies around the basket I used a Martha Stewart doily punch and then stamped little broderie anglaise circlets - a separate stamp in Faux Fun - in line with the punched scallops. A tiny bit of ribbon and it was nearly done. I just had to add a wee tag. A plain heart stamp from Sweethearts was inked up and then the wee broderie anglaise circlet was just 'touched' against it to remove some ink before stamping the heart and punching it out with the EK success punch.

A sentiment (Sweethearts) and a co-ordinating flower motif (Faux Fun) finished it.

I couldn't resist trying the stamp kissing technique with the plain heart and the lace stamp to make this tiny notecard! 'Course I had to throw on some Glossy accents goo! Did manage to get some 'bonus' bubbles in it tho...apologies for the awful pics this is what reflected snow does to my photography!

For my last card I used the bow and arrow from Sweethearts to make a patterned background. I stamped the plain heart in red and then lavished my card with one of those anti-static baggie things before stamping my arrow, (I used a piece of post-it note to mask the centre of the heart) which I gold embossed before adding the sentiment and copious amounts of Antique linen distress ink around the edges! It was very simple but I liked it.

So, if anything tickles you might like to pop back later to see the sets released here on the blog!!

And the competition!!!

I'm going to repeat what I did last month and give away a free shopping basket to one lucky customer! Anyone who places an order after the release is open, and up until Thursday night, (midnight my time) will be chosen at random to have the cost of their order completely refunded including shipping!! lol. (NB orders that don't include either of the new sets will also be included in the draw)

The winner will be announced at some point on Friday hopefully, I will be having extensive dental 'fun' that day and may be groggy until late...
