...snow day!

We get a little snow most years but it's been a long time since it has been so frosty for so many days in a row. The trees are still iced up even in the middle of the day!

This morning my DH thought it would be a good idea to take the kids sledging at a park. It's a very nice park, but it's 10 times prettier in the snow.

So, despite my protestations of pain and discomfort (I had a hot date with my dentist yesterday, it ended badly lol - I'm a complete weed) off we went at 10 this morning.

It was lovely. Here's a few pics.

My wee folk playing at being huskies!

I love the colour of this green tree bark against the snow. It is so vivid. So, what's it like where you are? I hope the snow lasts a bit longer - I know, I know, I shouldn't...but I do! lol! Back tomorrow with a card!

  1. These pictures are so beautiful! It looks pretty much the same where I am - including the children playing in the white stuff :0) they absolutely LOVE it! My brother sent me this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/8447023.stm it's a really awesome picture! Over on the left there was still a hint of green though - I guess not any more :0)

  2. Lovely frosty pics Claire! We have a foot of snow here in chilly Berkshire - kids have enjoyed the extra week off school, but I'm bored of it now! I want to be able to get off the drive and do things!

  4. I love these photos, Claire. My favorite is the colorful children against the monotone scenery.

I live in Washington State, on the west side (called here the wet side). Last year was exceptional because we had lots of snow. This year is more typical where we had a dusting one night that went away when the daytime temp raised a bit. We've had a lot of rain the past week, but today there's some sun and temps are in the 40's F.

I love snow because it's so "special" here. I don't have any kids in the house anymore so I don't have the disruption of snow days anymore. Last year my grand children lost over a week of school and my daughter hasn't gotten over it yet.

  5. Beautiful photos! We are in the middle of a very warm summer here in Australia and we never see any of the white stuff in Brisbane!

  6. Gorgeous! It looks like your children had a wonderful time. I love the bright green mossy tree. We get lots of snow and cold here, but it's not often that I see green trees (that aren't pine) contrasted with the snow.

  7. Beautiful photos Claire!!!

It looks a lot like where you are here, but the snow is gone off of the branches - so white on the ground, and brown everywhere else...lol. I love when the branches are covered, it's so beautiful :)...thanks for sharing the pics!

  10. I am so envious. It never snows in SA, maybe a bit of sleet...LOL. So hot here at the moment with thunderstorms in the afternoon to cool things down. My greatest wish is to experience a white Christmas. Enjoy the beauty of it!

  11. Gorgeous photos Claire - there are some compensations for burst pipes, frozen plants, using tons of fuel, wearing about 10 layers all day, etc, etc, :-)

  12. Even though we usually get lots of snow - I still love it - especially when it's coming down from the sky and everything is hushed by it!

What a wonderful outing you had with the kids and DH! hope you are feeling better soon Claire!

  13. Gorgeous photographs Claire. It's has been frigid cold here for weeks as well. You've really captured the true beauty of winter. Loved the ones of your kiddos in the snow...precious. Thanks for sharing a bit of your world with us!

  14. I love the pics Claire!! Have to confess....I'm a wee bit jealous. I'd almost do anything for a bit of snow over here atm. We're in the middle of a heatwave......its 1.30am and I'm blogging 'coz its tooooo hot to sleep. Currently its about 28C, blurgh!! Better than yesterday when it reached a max of 38C and got down to 30C overnight!! I don't like summer much at the best of times and this is really icky!! Tomorrow (Mon....ooops, I mean today, lol) is supposed to be hotter still as is Tuesday and then we should get cooler days and lots of rain. Joy!!

Anyways.....love the photos and can't wait to see your next card.

Hope your "dentist intervention" is coming along nicely and your not so poorly.

  15. One of the reasons that I like living in New England--'bout the time you are tired of this season, another is close on its heels to take its place (sometimes within a matter of minutes Haha!)
Pictures of the kiddos doing the huskies scene reminds me of my own childhood adventures in the snows.
Lovely captures, Claire. So, when are you going to produce a picture book for us, eh?

P.S. When I woke up this morning, it was 3 degrees F here, with old snow on the ground and lots of animals' tracks to be seen, but is IS brrrreautiful, all the same. :-D

  17. I love how frost on the trees look especially when I can play in the snow :) It's wonderfully cold out here in Montreal right now and that's fine with me. Being a winter baby helps, but it makes the homemade soups and stews taste even better. After the big warm bowls are finished I always enjoy a walk in the evening. The cruch of the snow underfoot is soothing and I think the fresh air helps me sleep better. I love winter and it looks like your kidlets are having a great time of it, as well!
Take care after your dental day, Claire. BTW, is it cold jello or warm soup? Either way, do what makes you happy :)

  18. Your photos are lovely as usual. We had 16 inches in about 30 hours last weekend.North of us got 33 inches! The ski industry is very happy. This weekend it is a bit chilly but that is to be expected in Vermont!

  20. As the temp soared to 36 here at the bottom of Tassie yesterday and they are 'prophesaying' catasptophic fire dangers in all the southern states with temps of over 40 degree's, you pics are LOVELY! I too like the green against the snow. One time I was in the UK there was snow piled up along the highways but usually is just bloody cold and wet in winter and stifling in summer! Enjoy and stay safe.
