...Introducing - You're Lovely and Flourishes - Scallops and Dots

ED - my apologies, this post was scheduled, but for some reason it didn't go up on time! sorry it's so late!

Good Morning! hope it's a good one for you! My wee folk officially start their summer holiday today and so I'm hoping for a lie in....

Today is my chance to show you some more of the sets we have releasing tomorrow! I jumped the gun on my poor DT ladies and let my Eat Cake out of the bag a day early yesterday - the girls will show you their baking skills today, here is a wee linklist so you can go see what they baked up!

My first card today shows the main dress form image from a fancy little set called You're Lovely - I adore this dress. I love the clean and simple styling that leaves it wide open to so many applications - weddings, proms, or formals as they are in UK, parties etc.

I fitted the dress onto a wireform, I love that vintage dressmaker notion, but I wanted to make it an image that you could use on many different types of cards and so I moved away from a reproduction of an antique dress form to a cleaner, more timeless design.

Perfectly suited to vintage or modern, I love it. On my first card above, I paper pieced the dress, and then I stamped one of the extra bodice pieces on top of the paper piecing. You can see the bodice is stamped in black and has a little dotted detailing recalling the boned contours of a vintage corset. I used copics to colour the skirt. I trimmed out the dress with a Labels 11 die shape (Spellbinders) and sponged the edges with a yellow gold before removing the die cut from the die.

Then I stamped a little flower motif all around to add some background interest. The final touch to the dress was a little flower, worn on the hip. - The sentiment is also from You're Lovely and is stamped in coral. to complement the flower. A little satin coral ribbon runs up the edge of the panel.

Can you see the Flourishes, on the dp paper? I silver embossed them, so that it would pick up on the silver of the little vintage style hair clips that I intended to give with this card. I picked the card colours to match the resin roses on the clips, such a dainty little treat!

I used the same sentiment to make a little vintage style card for the hair slides. It's a labels 11 die cut with two little slits to allow the clips to slide onto it.

My second project for today shows the dress image again from You're Lovely, together with a sentiment from the set. I also used the new Flourishes set to make the pattern on the paper pieced dress and on the background of the card. I am so excited about these flourishes. I have wanted them forever, but I always said I would hold off until I could produce flourishes that were a little bit different from the norm, and I found my answer in the little scallops and dots!! Flourishes - Scallops and Dots is the first in a series for Flourish sets - they are like no other flourish sets that I have seen anywhere else! I'm excited to bring you these ones, but I cannot wait to hear what you will make of the res of the flourishes in the series!!

I used copics again to shade the folds of the gown to give it a little realism. Another flower at the hip... I seem to be stuck in the 80's...

Room for one more?

Another dress form from the You're Lovely set - so much packed into this wee 6x4 set! This one is shorter and maybe a little cheekier! lol, if you coloured it right, it could almost be vintage bloomers! Here it's a bodice top and pinstripe skirt with kick frill, you will never see me wear anything like this, excess hair follicle issues, but it's so girlie and I love it to pieces!! It's what I wear in my head...in the sun...when I'm going for ice-cream in Rome in one of those gelato parlours...

I LOVE the punchy shade of blue, with the crisp white and kraft, yum! I embossed the image with white powder onto a kraft base. I then used a brush to 'paint' the image with stamping inks, I found the SU inks super for this! Just like watercolouring!

Tiny little label tag with a sentiment from Eat Cake. I thought the wrought iron stand was fun and I can see no end of applications for this, it'll be my go-to set for feminine cards for the forseeable future!! You're Lovely contains a total of 13 stamps - 2 dress forms, 3 bodices, 3 mini floral satmp, 2 small scale flourishes and 5 sentiments. All in a wee 6x4 set!

Couldn't go without showing you some flourishes, this was the card background before the focal panel was added - what do you see? Pairs of matching flourishes...pairs...excellent possibilities for these fabby flourishes, I'm just scratching the surface here!!!

Sure hope these tickle!! I'm off to get the store ready - and if you've been good and read all this way down, here's a wee tip - leave a comment telling me which set is your front runner so far....I'll be drawing a comment to win a prize...an entire set of July release stamps kinda prize... :)

...Introducing - Eat Cake (Second Post today)

Yep, I know I'm meant to be showing my Big Day stamps just  like the DT gals, but I really have so much to show you that I'm going to struggle to fit it all in before Friday!!!

I just wanted to squeeze in this fun card to illustrate the Eat Cake set that will also be releasing on Friday - you don't mind, do you?

Eat Cake is another small set - 6 x 4 but it is jam packed with cakey bakey goodness! The main image is a 4 tiered cake base onto which you can stamp a variety of decorative features - the key thing here is versatility - you can go as mad or a quietly as you wish. You can bake yourself a birthday cake, wedding cake, Christening, any sort of event that could use a cake, can use a cake card!!

The first card here shows the cake 'fully dressed' if you like - I started with the basic cake base, stamped in pale pink - (memento Angel Pink). Then I added flowers (separate stamp, plum chalk ink). Next I stamped some scalloped icing (separate stamp, mid pink), then a scalloped cake ribbon band (separate stamp, plum chalk ink). Finally I stamped the cake stand in the plum chalk ink.

I went back in with a copic and added an orange dot to the centre of each flower to tie in with my mat.

I cut the image out very roughly and mounted it on a sentiment mat - the main sentiment reads 'Birthday Wishes' but the panel is also stamped with the sentiment 'can we eat the cake now' all over to make a little background pattern. I roughly drew an orange line, with a copic pen, around the mat and mounted it onto my card base - which was kraft, with an orange strip.

My second card is a little calmer, maybe even masculine?

Do you like the little scripted cake? let me show you how to do that - 'seasy.

First - Ink up the cake base in the colour of your choice - I used a pale shade and you can see the exact ink in the photo.

Next, ink up a background stamp - I used a script stamp from Text-It for this cake - but you could use a plaid maker stamp, a polka dot stamp, anything with a closely knit pattern on it should do.

Then touch the inked face of the texture stamp to the inked face of the cake base stamp - this is a variation on the kissing technique.

Now stamp on the cardstock with your cake base stamp - the pic below shows what it looks like while you are stamping. Love clear photopolymer....

And when you lift the stamp. With the text stamp, obviously the script is in reverse now, but I don't think that maters, it's the texture I want, I don't need to read that writing!

I thought this made a beautiful cake base, it really didn't need much decorating, but I couldn't resist adding that wee candle!!

Well? tickled?

Since this is my second post today, here are the links to the ladies again, to save you scrolling all the way back! And! don't forget to check out the Big Cheese this week! - see the sidebar!

...Introducing Cameo To Go and Big Day (Dt blogs)

Hot on the heels of Cameo Creations is the other small Cameo set - Cameo to go. A 6x4 inch clear photopolymer set packed with ready built cameo images, extra frame, and sentiments to help you create your vintage trifles with speed.

I cheated slightly and used a motif stamp from the Ovals Classic Frames set (also new on Friday) to make that patterned background, love that fine and delicate pattern.

The focal point of this card tho' was made with the girl cameo from Cameo to go. I stamped the image, added the surround and trimmed it out with a Classic Ovals die - from the small set, we hope to have these on the store on Friday also.

I took it out of the die to show you how nicely it fits into the embossed area of the oval die cut. I then popped it back into the die and sponged on some Victorian Velvet distress ink. I cut a chocolate brown mat with a die from the lacey ovals die template set - Some days I really believe that somebody over at Spellbinders has somehow managed to tap into my brainwaves and just directs the company to produce stuff I want but didn't know it yet... I LOVE those lacey dies that complement the classic ovals and pennants and circles etc! so delicate!

Below I wanted to show you a comparison - I stamped the lady cameo - which is the same size as the girl, in black - I added the surround as before - isn't it so fabulous that you can see through photopolymer!!!

Then I lined up a die from the Classic ovals large set over the image. - the one that was closest in size. You can see how this die is smaller than the one used on the girl cameo. When you get a stamp that does not fall completely within the die frame it can be a little tricky to line up. All you need to remember is to centre the design inside the frame. I designed the cameo surround to be perfectly symmetrical - just so that when you are trimming it out in this way, it is easy to see if the image is evenly arranged within the die - notice the scrolls at the top and bottom, how you can see exactly the same amount of each scroll - and the little tiny bits at the sides, how they match perfectly.

I secure the die with some tape and run it through the Grand Calibur. I don't emboss the die, I just cut. I don't like an embossing line to run through a stamped image, I'm a little over fussy that way...lol...

Here I have added a black mat, cut with a die from the Big Scalloped Ovals large set (- by the way, just in case you are new here, all dies I mention are Spellbinders brand dies - I am pretty addicted to them.) You can judge which you prefer, but I wanted to show you the comparison between the two classic ovals die template sets from Spellbinders, remember, small on the left, large on the right!

The other thing you will notice about the oval dies - the 'flange' or embossing bit - the bit of the die which falls either side of the cutting line, it is not exactly the same width all the way round, in the same way that it would be on a square or circular die. I have designed the stamps to take account of this. You will notice it most when you line up your dies over the stamped images, but so long as you just remember to centre your image, your images will be trimmed just fine.

Back to the card...some idiot ( erm....me) decided that glossy accents would look good used over the cameo, and yes, it would have been very pretty if the same idiot had not lost patience while waiting for it to dry and used a heat gun to sort of speed it along...causing a ripple in the gloss...lol....I was so tempted to tell you I did that on purpose as an example of what not to do...lol!!

The sentiment is one of the 7 included in the set - I adore that font!! so pretty and feminine and just right for this vintage style set I thought!!

Hope it tickles!! - I will be back later with more...lol in the meantime, here are the ladies - they are previewing our two new wedding based sentiment sets:

...Introducing Cameo Creations

ED - erm.... I got the name wrong...lol, I go through so many draft names for my sets that sometimes I get a little muddled...the store name for this set will be Cameo Creations. - I have changed in this post so it now reads correctly...oopsie...

...ahem... Good afternoon! Welcome to the beginning of the July 2011 release of clear stamps at Waltzingmouse Stamps. My first sample today showcases two of our 8 new sets releasing on Friday!

The majority of stamps used in this card come from a small 6x4 set called Cameo Creations, the sentiment is from Cameo to Go, more on that set later.

Cameo Maker comprises 12 different stamps, featuring silhouettes of 4 types - adult male (nope, it's not J.F Kennedy, but I can see why you would ask...) adult female (my elder daughter, no, really! - I drew these based on my family profiles, with the exception of the guy, because Des thought it was just a step too far for him to be immortalised in photopolymer) junior male (my little dude) and junior female (my little tiny girl).

I added some vintage necklines to the two junior silhouettes, I thought they looked rather charming.

The people silhouettes make up a 'family' of sorts and are scaled so that the adult silhouettes can be used with the junior silhouettes on the same project and look in proportion together. I included two extra smaller adult silhouettes for extra design potential, and i used the smaller adult silhouettes here on this card, together with the juniors to create a background pattern.

You can see how I used the oval frames to create a pattern. I then filled the ovals with people and added the little cross piece stamp in between the ovals - I absolutely adore this pattern. This is what I like to do best, I love to stamp patterns. I used Vintage cream ink (PTI on Gina K kraft cardstock)

Cameo Creations is very much a set to be played with, a little something delightful for when you have time to make some pretty focal points for your cards, or some pretty background stamping. The Cameo To Go set, is more of a capsule set - containing finished cameos, one decorative surround and some sentiments, the idea was that you could have a cameo focal point and sentiment ready to go in a flash.

I love how these little silhouettes look, the combination of white or cream on kraft is a favourite and the simple wreath styling in this colourway is very Gustavian to me, when I worked as an interior designer, I was very attracted to Swedish style, I never really grew out of it!

The smaller frames in the Cameo Creations set also work well in the oval tag die from the Ribbon tags trio 2 set from Spellbinders. See the pic at the end for details. The sentiment is one of 7 sentiments in the Cameo To Go set.

Below, you can see how I used the pointy end of the dew drop style ink pad (memento) to 'colour' the embossed dots around the tag, I did this with the die still in place.

Sure hope it tickles!!! I may well be back later today with more - my schedule is a little topsy turvy with all the catching up I'm doing, but I have quite a few samples to get through before friday!!!

Did you manage to see the ladies today, they are previewing our new sets also! if you didn't here's the list:

..the last peek...before the cards

I will be back later today with my cards - I was photographing them last night and the light was atrocious! I just couldn't get it right, so rather than show you grumpy photos I decided to re-do the pics this morning!!

....July sneaky peeky no.2...

Good morning and welcome to another peeky at July - we have 8 new sets due for release on the 1st, which is actually not that far away!!!!

... July? Anyone?

So, I think I've been making the peeks wayyyyy too easy! lol, have fun figuring out this one!! it's nearly time for our July release...8 new sets releasing on July 1st, here on the blog...mmmmmm!

This peek is from a small set that I just love! - I know, I know, I love them all....but that's the beauty of being a stamp designer, I get to design stamps that I like and actually want to use. So far I have been putting out stamps that have been hanging around in my head for so long, we haven't really followed the seasonal trend as such - I do have folks emailing me asking when we will do summer sets etc and we will....all in good time...I'm thinking that as time goes on we will eventually be able to release strawberries in time for july etc, but at the moment i am happy to follow the ideas in my head! lol!

The only thing you can be sure of is that Christmas will be ready at WMS...lol...we're thinking of starting those in August....you can never have enough time to get ready for Christmas.

Waffle

On a personal note, many of you will know that we lost my husbands mother just over a week ago. It was unexpected and we will miss her very much. I was surprised by the well wishes and cards that arrived here at home from friends of WMS and I know Desy was very touched. Thank you all.

Inevitably, when things happen in this way, there are folks who step up to provide help and support and aside from the shock and grief, we came through this awful time even more grateful for the Big Guy upstairs for sending lovely folks our way just when we needed them most.

The Big Cheese of the Week

Good morning my friends!

I have to tell you, I am so impressed to see so many of you participating in our new Big Cheese Gallery incentive program! The Gallery has been hopping! If you aren't familiar with the program, you can read more about it here. Right now there is a thread in the WMS forum for this week's uploads, so go check it out! We would love to see your newly uploaded projects!

We had so many fantastic projects uploaded this week. I thought that before we share the winner, I would highlight a few other projects that caught our eye!

First is from Pauline Pollington (who has a gallery full of delicious creations!)

Pauline's color combination is so striking! All the sparkle really makes this an elegant card - and look at that fantastic border using Victorian Frippery!

Next up is Joanne Gilch.

Combining images from Celtic Heritage and Irish Blessings, Joanne has designed a wonderful monochromatic card that would be perfectly suited for a gal or a guy. Love the layout, too!

Now, without further ado, our Big Cheese for this week is Karin Akesdotter with this stunner:

What's not to love about the view from Karin's 'window' - complete with a lacey curtain?! Her scene was built using images from Teeny Trees, the rock and roll inking technique she used on the trees really adds so much depth to the vignette.

Great job, Karin! Send me an email and we will provide you with a discount code for your next Waltzingmouse Stamps purchase.

Karin's card will be added to the Big Cheese highlight album in the WMS Gallery. Would you like the opportunity to be chosen? Post your new upload links here, a new thread starts every Monday!

Have a great day!

June Friends of Waltzingmouse Stamps Waltz Review AND WINNER Announced

What a fabulous Waltz we had with so many wonderful displays of USA pride and Americana designs. After seeing all the wonderful inspiration, we want to share with you a few of the projects that we found to be extraordinary.
This card was made by Kary Lim.  She used a fun design that really hits on a bit of American history, referencing the legendary Boston Tea Party using the Afternoon Tea set.  Her fun framing using bakers twine “ties” this red, white & blue design all together.  Her fun star paper-pieced tea pot and star corner embellishment was a fun way to bring in the “stars and stripes” into her creation.  Thank you, Kary, for sharing this creation with us.
Our next pick was from Cassandra whose clean and simple design certainly caught our attention. Her Victorian Fripperie designs on her blue stars are wonderfully enticing and by framing her sentiment from the Say it Loud set, it really focuses the attention on the suggestion to “celebrate”. Cassandra is from Australia and while this isn’t her nation’s holiday, this card could easily serve as a great masculine birthday card.  You did a fabulous job Cassandra.
Moving along to DebGem’s patriotic creation.  She created a stars and strips flag design utilizing the Say it Loud, Bitty Banners and Offbeat Backgrounds to create a patriotic flag!  The faux stitching works great to create the stripes.  The fun red, white & blue banner really brings out the festive atmosphere of the project.  Great job Deb.

There were so many inspiring creations that came out of this Waltz.  If you haven’t seen them all yet, then pop on over to the forum RIGHT HERE where you can find links to ALL the red-white & blue inspiration.  Honestly – the Friends of Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Waltz  contains more stars in it than the American flag. =)

And now for the WINNER of the June Waltz – randomly selected from all those who participated in the Friends of Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Waltz, the winner of a free set of their choice is:
Congratulations!  Please forward your contact information along with your set of choice to Claire at claire.brennan1@ntlworld.com.   Thanks again to everyone for your participation.

...a little prayer

I just wanted to let folks know that my mother in law passed away over the weekend. It was a little unexpected and we need a little time.
Things may well be patchy on the store over the next few days. My good friend has stepped in and is getting on top of shipping notes etc and I expect orders will go out as normal until Thursday. There will be no shipping on Friday or Saturday this week.
If you emailed me since Saturday night it may be a day or two until I reply, but I will get to you eventually.
I'll catch up with you all soon.

Big Cheese Highlight Gallery

Hi all! It is Anya here, and Claire has given me the opportunity to share some exciting news with you today.

Here at Waltzingmouse, we are especially proud of our Gallery and the vast array of projects posted there. Thank you to all who upload your projects for us to view, admire, and from which to draw inspiration. If you haven't already set up your own personal gallery, you can find instructions on how to do that here.

To encourage use of the Gallery, we have developed an incentive that we are happy to roll out today. We have dedicated a special thread in the Waltzingmouse Forum (under ‘The Gallery’ topic) where we would like you to let us know when you have uploaded a project to the WMS Gallery, including a link to your project. In exchange for your participation, we will ooh and ahh over your uploads and each week will select one person to be featured here on the WMS Blog – we’ll call it the Big Cheese! The person selected will receive a promotional code eligible for $10 off a purchase from the WMS Store and their project will be posted to a special Big Cheese album in the WMS Gallery. We hope that this program will encourage you to share your creations in the WMS Gallery so we can keep it as a fresh and growing place of inspiration!

A new thread in the forum will be posted each week and a new Big Cheese will be chosen every Wednesday. We will choose our first Big Cheese on Wednesday, June 22. This week’s thread has been posted, and we can’t wait to see all the projects that you upload! Thank you all for making this a great community and source of inspiration.

(The discount code is not eligible for shipping costs. We ask that you use WMS images on the projects you upload to the WMS Gallery, and will disqualify projects that do not comply with the guidelines. We’re all here for WMS inspiration, after all!)

Gremlins in the Master Mousehouse

Good day craft fans.  Lynn here with another update from Claire.  (I think you might know where this post is going.)

Claire had a couple of hours of Internet last night which allowed her to process orders, but today is another story.  Today finds her with no Internet, no electricity and thus emails and shipping notes/updates cannot go out.  Claire hopes to be back online by this evening, but for the next day, if you are waiting for a shipping notice or an answer to an e-mail, please be aware that these items are on hold for now.

Thanks for your patience.

HELP–No Internet

Hello – Lynn here, to announce that Claire e-mailed me in despair that her Internet is OUT (EEK!)  The construction continues at her place and in the process, their cable line was snagged.

She is hopeful that it will be fixed by tomorrow.  There will be a there will now be a slight delay in getting orders out since she cannot access the store from her home, and she cannot go elsewhere because of the construction going on there.  I know she feels terrible about this and appreciates your patience.

...and the winner is...

Chosen by the Random number generator, our winner, from our June SOAP Day 2 comment competition is Erin, who said:

Erin (Homemade Cards by Erin) said... 89

I don't know if I made your time cut off, but I'm already a forum member, and I love that stamping just lets my brain work in a different way, I find it all very calming.!
Congratulations Erin, pop me an email!
Since you're already on the forum, you have won at least two stamp sets of your choice, if I can find any posts you made on the forum before yesterday, you will win a third!!!

... June SOAP Day 4 Rewind to Free Spirit Boy

Good morning! I hope you have been enjoying our SOAP event where we provide fresh inspiration for the sets we recently released! Today we are rewinding even further back and taking another peep at an older set - Free Spirit Boy - I will be back with my sample a little later, it has been a most challenging week, due to circumstances outside of WMS and so I am not quite ready on time, but I'll be back later on with my project and the winner of my little comp! If you haven't entered there's just time - I 'll close it around lunchtime (my time) see here.

I was very pleased with myself when I designed this set for the April 2010 release - I hadn't seen anything like it at the time and I suppose I thought I was bringing something fresh to the awkward 'teen' to twenty masculine age group. I was especially pleased with the tribal tattoo images, i felt they were quite edgy and I'm delighted to say that just over a year on, they still are!

Masculine cards can be one of the most daunting subjects for cardmakers and so this morning it will be fascinating to see what the DT gals have done with Free Spirit Boy:

CASE Comp

Now it’s time for you to get your craftiness on as we invite you to participate in a CASE (Copy and Share Everything) competition.

Find a card or project from any of the projects posted over the past few days by the WMS Design Team, CASE that project using Waltzingmouse Stamp images, and link it using the Inlinkz here on this blog post. At the end of the competition, one project will be randomly selected to be highlighted with a Parade of its own on several of the Design Team blogs.

We hope you will enjoy this competition and that it will inspire your creativity. You have one week to complete and link your project as the competition will close on June 10th at 8:00 AM my time, which is 3 AM Eastern, 2 AM Central and Midnight, Pacific time. The winner will be announced on My blog on June 11th.
