...Ho Ho Ho!

Well I feel a bit guilty that the old blog is so bare this past week! But I'm consoling myself with the thoughts that if my next release comes off as planned I'll have something that will blow your wee minds, unless of course you are into skydiving, swimming with sharks or any other sort of extreme sport that really does blow your mind! LOL

anyhow, can't wait...but have to...

waffle

I've been an Interior designer, a graphic designer and most recently a stamp designer. I flatter myself that I can put things together to make a pleasing arrangement, so WHY am I the pits with fashion?

I couldn't dress a wound.

I live my life in blue jeans, plain T-shirts and brown hiking boots. Just so's you have the full picture, I have longish dark brown hair and a fairly unremarkable face. Ok, the nose is...well, regal.

I feel comfortable, and I can run if I have to, lol. It doesn't bother me, and I don't really think about it, it's not like I go to many gala dinners. But yesterday I was in the kitchen, trying really hard not to iron when a tiny hand shoved a sheet of printer paper under my nose. It was a glorious piece of handiwork. Stolen crayons and larger sisters' best felt tips combined to paint a picture of an amazing creature, a princess decked out in a flowing gown of myriad colour. High heels and stripey tights. Each individual eyelash outlined in a different hue. Collagen lipstick like you couldn't buy.

"Ooooh that's lovely!" I said, wondering if I was going to have to make it, we'd been talking halloween costumes.

"It's you mummy she said."

I wish everyone could see me like she does, just once. LOL.

Had to really laugh at your "couldn't dress a wound" -- I LOVE that one! My hubby always says he's "too poor to pay attention"! Sadly, it's too true when I NEED more stamps -- LOL!!!

  4. Oh my, Claire...I laughed out loud as I read this post. How sweetly adorable that your little darling wanted to do a portrait of you. Now, I'm just waiting for your new avatar...complete with multicolored eyelashes, high heels, and stripey tights. HA! Thanks for the giggle.

  6. And this is why we have kids and keep them around! What a great story! I have on my fridge a letter written to me by one of my 2nd grade students (8 years ago!!) I keep there because it says, I love you Mrs. Hetland. You are so skinny and pretty! LOL Never in my adult life have I been close to skinny... but I will take it!

  8. Oh Clare --- don't leave us hanging girlfriend....show us the art work. Kid's are just the best but if any want to draw me I would insist they just do it from the neck up. LOL.

  9. Claire, that is just about the cutest story I've ever heard!! Clearly your daughter sees the beauty you display, both inside and out. Give that girl raise in her allowance!! LOL

  10. I am just like you - I don't even wear make up (I haven't found a brand that doesn't cause me to break out):-). I love your sweet story, Claire! I love being a mommy, too. These kids just love us so unconditionally. That's why God wants us to have faith like the little children. I look forward to seeing your future designs.

  11. That's called un-conditional love! Join the club, re comfort v fashion, practical rules almost all of the time, especially when you've got three little ones to run after...

  16. Now I'll know what to look out for at the Belfast Craft Show next month? I'll be a 5'nothing 11 stone grey haired bespectacled 60 something dressed for comfort. By the way, are you planning to take a booth at this show? Loved the story....they just see your love for them. Best wishes from a very sunny and wonderful Cookstown.

  18. This post is precious. And really, I don't think I would need anyone else to think of me this way...a child's perception is like gold. I'm so with you on dressing comfortable, and what I call, practical. Thanks for sharing such a sweet story. Also curious about your upcoming stamps....

  19. My daughter still draws me as some sort of Jellybean! But she is only 3. Isn't it great that your daughter sees you looking amazing! They are sweet innocent souls, and draw from the heart.

  20. What an absolutely charming story!! Such a treasured moment I'm sure!! I much prefer people who care more about beautifying their insides. Then they naturally glow on the outside. That surely must be the case with you, because through the innocent eyes of your daughter, she sees color and beauty!

  21. Absolutely precious! Obviously she is already in tune with a person's inner beauty as well! What a gem of a story. Thanks for sharing!

  24. Wouldn't it be great to see through the eyes of a bairn again? Wish my boys would draw me like that, I normally look like something from another planet (are they trying to tell me something?!)
Thanks for sharing such a sweet story.

  26. Isn't it gorgeous how young children see with love? I recently watched my 3yr old DD prancing and twirling in front of a mirror watching herself, when someone cammented 'humourously' that she was a vain wee thing. After I recovered, I was able to reply that I wished I could take such unselfconscious pleasure in a mirror instead of averting my eyes, and perhaps life would be better for a lot of women if that were the case. They went a bit pink... ! XX
