...Hallowe'en

About two years ago myself and a friend were driving home from Athlone. We had about 120 miles to go and it was late enough in the evening. We were full of chat having spent the day at a craft show and neither of us were tired as we had driven down the day before and stayed over.

No need for the radio since both of us could talk for Ireland and so about a half hour into the drive we were both a bit startled when the car dashboard beeped to let us know we were low on petrol. I hadn't had the wit to check the level before we'd set off.

I completely believe the maths when it tells me that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line and so I'm not one for following motorways when it looks like I can go more directly from A to B on country roads. I like to think I have a great sense of direction and so I'd taken a cross country route home.

I know there's about 30 miles left in the tank before I really run out of juice and so I'm not really panicking as such but I get my friend to flip on 'Nuala' the sat nav to see if she can pinpoint a service station - it's not like Ireland is that big and there's probably one round the next hedge. It's been pitch dark since about 7 or so anyhow and I'm on country roads that I'm not familar with and so it's handy to have the sat nav to fall back on.

A while back we passed a signpost for Trim, and so I know that I'm somewhere between Trim and Navan and neither is further than 10km so really, there's not a problem.

Blasted sat nav can't find a satellite and so I do what any girl scout would do and keep going 'til I reach a small village, we knock the door of a 70's style bungalow and the nice lady who lives there tells us that we're only about 4 miles from a service station - she even telephones ahead to make sure he is still open - it's about ten to nine and he's getting ready to close up, but he says he'll wait for us - where would you get better?

It's a grand clear night and even though there's no lighting along the country roads, the sky is clear as glass and, for a change it's not raining. I turn into a stretch of road about a mile long and poker straight. I'm doing about 35mph, which I don't think is excessive when my foots takes a convulsion and slams itself on the brake. Thankfully the brakes are great and we don't skid further than about 4-5 feet. About a nanosecond later my eyes register the shape of a big-ish white dog standing in the road, about a foot in front of the headlights -  and I mean just standing there. He's not looking at us, he is standing in the middle of the road, side-on to the car, just standing there staring into the hedge. He gets bigger every time I tell this story, but in truth he was about the size and shape of a Wolfhound. I have no clue how I didn't see him, his back is taller than the bonnet of the car, he is all white and the headlights are practically bouncing off him. He must have leapt out of the hedge on the right, mentally I give him the full 10 points for a perfect landing, he's not even swaying.

I turn to tell my friend that he must be hunting something in the ditch under the hedge, his concentration is powerful and she's laughing at me "What are you, the dog whisperer?" we both turn back to him and he's gone. Must have went in after whatever it was he was hunting, 35 mph now feels a little fast and my heart is still racing, so I put the car into first and prepare to crawl forward a bit, I'm paranoid now that the dog will bounce back out onto the road, and I'd rather not run him over, so I ask my friend to keep a look out on the left and I take the right - for about a split second I wonder if he is lost and should I try to nab him and take him somewhere, but he just didn't have that 'lost dog' air about him and I decide that he's a local and he'll be grand. It's a bit dark out and I really don't fancy running round fields trying to catch a dog while keeping the petrol man waiting. Also he's a bit on the large side. I wonder if he is deaf, or blind even, he didn't take us under his notice and it was odd the way he didn't even look at us. Poor oul thing. This all takes place in the space of about 5 seconds, and as I let down the hand brake and press my foot on the pedal an ear splitting crack rents the air like a gunshot. The shock of the sound makes me jerk my foot off the pedal and I freeze. My friend freezes. It sounds like a ton of gravel is raining down on the car, I hear a huge rusty hinge creaking and the gravel is still raining. The car is bouncing slightly as it stalls and something vast hits the tip of the bonnet, the back end of the car raises ever so slightly then bounces down again and we roll back a couple of inches. The gravel stops raining but I can see nothing. "What the H*** is happening?" I shout. Silence.

It takes about a full 5 minutes for us to realise that we are in the canopy of a massive tree. Neither of us can get a door open, but we climb into the back seats and I pop the boot. We climb out into the road and back into the clear moonlight.

A massive tree has come down in the road right at the front end of the car. We are shaking. Speechless. We walk back to the 70's bungalow. Phone home. Hot sweet tea. The nice lady phones the Garda and they get the road closed off and organise getting the car out of the tree. Few scratches, front bumper is off, but Garda Timoney thinks I have a sixth sense - he notices there's no collision marks on the tree trunk - and he's seen the skid marks on the road - "How did you get stopped in time? you couldn't have known that tree was going to fall?"

I just tell him that I slammed on the brake when I saw the big white dog. Garda Timoney's eyes dart to his fellow officer, who stops writing and looks back at him, nice lady spills her tea.

...Elf Made stamps and a final giveaway!

Good evening folks! are you liking the previews? I am, I love Christmas! Today the DT ladies are previewing our third set of this release - 'Elf made' - It's a cracking 6x8 set featuring two cute elves and various other bits and bobs designed to elvify your gift giving and cardmaking for this coming Christmas Season.

The card above was made by Jeanne, it features the boy elf stamp from the new Elf Made set - and also a couple of sentiments from that set - it's a cute set and is ideal for folks who like to do a little colouring, or paper piecing. I have pinched it to head up my blog post as I'm still busy with the Jolly old Elf... samples below...

The DT ladies previewing the Elf Made set today are listed, but here is the link to the DT blog - you can see them all in one go by clicking here.

Giveaway

For this release I'm doing a giveaway for each set we have previewed, so, as with the previous two posts, we want you to share, pin, tweet all of your favourite samples of 'Elf Made'. Don't forget to come back here and leave a comment on this post - telling us how you have shared. A winner will be drawn from the comments tomorrow evening at about 6:30pm my time, just before the release goes live at 7:00pm.

We will have 3 winners in total, one each from the Flurries Post, the Jolly Old Elf Post and this Elf Made post. You can still enter these if you have not done so yet!

Ok, well I'm not quite finished with my Jolly Old Elves and so I have a few samples for you now that use that set,

The Jolly Old Elf set has a good many little accessory stamps in it - like this list stamp - I trimmed it out neat and just inserted it into a little slit I made at his left glove, it looks like he has been checking the list! The Santa Elf was stamped with just two stamps - the Santa figure and the hat. I stamped these onto a Santa shaped cut out that I created with the Cameo - Cut files will be available for this set, there were simply way too many options to do a die set for. I flocked his beard, and his hat band, and the wee pom pom at the tip of his hat. I took a black pencil and just filled in some black over his boots and belt, I'm just noticing I forgot to colour this tiny bit inside his buckle...lol

Finally this morning, my little Pretty panels dies came and on this card I have used Pretty Panel #2. The pretty panel dies work in the same way that the Picot panel die did - they are self matting. I love this feature - I always think a panel is a little naked without a mat and this type of die answers that perfectly.

The neat thing about figure stamps is that you can find so many more uses for them than some other types of stamps - here I have made up a Santa using 3 component stamps - the boots are one stamp (stamped in black), the legs, striped pantaloons and gloves are another stamp (stamped in green) and the waistcoat, sleeves and face are another stamp (stamped in red). I love how this looks like Santa in his civvies, it's like he is relaxing at home after the big event. I stamped him onto a cut-out that I made on the Cameo - I cut two of them and put a horizontal crease in one of them, I folded the feet backwards and glued the top half to the reverse of the stamped image, this makes the figure stand up.

By punching a tiny hole at his mitten and inserting a cocktail stick, you can have him wave a little flag - in this case I'm using him as a place card with my name on the flag.

I did the same thing with a full Santa image, except this time I just made a tiny slit at the bottom of each mitten so that I could slot in a little banner with a name on it. I just cut a thin strip of pattern paper and rolled the edges. There will be little banners in the Cut files that co-ordinate with this set if you fancy doing the same. I brushed around the edges with glue and added a little glitter, this is something that will take moments to make, even for a dozen or more guests. Below is the back view so you can see how he stands.

I just had to try out my Pretty Panels #1 die also, it's also self matting, and has a dainty little pin prick detail around the edge, here I made the main panel in cream and matted it with some glitter card. The accessory stamps in Jolly Old Elf are great fun and are perfect for mini cards in their own right. I've used the boots stamp and added a jingle bell to the toe of each. I mounted it on some patterned paper that's been lurking forever.

Hope it tickles!

... Jolly Old Elf and another giveaway

'Evening folks and welcome to the second day of previews of our October release! - thank you all so much for sharing our last night's samples - I very much appreciate you all helping us get the word out. If you have just joined us we are running a little giveaway comp on this blog post. There's still time to enter - all of the giveaway winners will be drawn about a half hour before the release goes live on Tuesday 28th (two more sleeps!).

Tonight's Giveaway

I'm going to do the same for tonight's set - it's called 'Jolly Old Elf' and it is a new 6x8 set that will be releasing on Tuesday also. Let's share, share, share - post or pin your facourite samples of this set anywhere you 'hang out', Facebook, Pinterest, Twitterland, wherever you know of folks who might be interested in seeing these! Don't forget to come back and comment on this post tell us how you shared - the winner of this comp will be drawn on Tuesday and will win one set of Jolly Old Elf stamps.

The Design Team gals also previewing with me today are listed below and don't forget you can also see all of their fabby samples in one place here on the DT Inspiration blog.

OK, remember back when you first started stamping - what was it that hooked you? For me it was the moment I lifted the stamp away from the cardstock, leaving that lovely sharp, clean image behind - the fact that I could do that over and over again nearly blew my little mind - they do say little amuses the innocent lol. I love that. I love stamping. Stamping is my favourite!

The first set I drew - do you remember - it was the gingerbreads - I was, and still am in love with sets. Sets of stamps that work together, sets of stamps that I can combine with different colours - I love the idea of getting unlimited variations using the same set - I love that I can still pick up the gingerbreads for example and create something entirely different to what I made with them last year, or the year before. I love timeless stamps. I love stamps that don't date quickly - I love sets that can be mixed with other sets. Did I ever tell you I love Christmas? All of that was in my head when I was drawing these Elves.

Jolly Old Elf - Santa - Elf...mmmmm elves...garden..... This set contains a figure of a Jolly Old Elf, but he is not limited to being Santa, he could also be your favourite garden gnome... There are a whopping 36 stamps in this set. You can either stamp just one image or you can combine lots of stamps - I cannot wait to show you this set.

For my card this evening, I used the Elf figure with his satchel full of candy canes - from his eyes down - he is all one piece - so he is easily stamped. Lots of detail in this stamp - his little stitched bag, his quilted waistcoat, stripey pantaloons, right down to his little turnover boots - I love this! There are 3 different hats stamps in the set and I chose the 'relaxed Santa' hat with the mistletoe - there are also a traditional Santa hat and a cone shaped gnome hat stamp. I stamped him in green to tone with my patterned paper.

Do you like his wee flocky beard? A little glue and some white flock. I sooo want to know what you think of this guy! :) So hope he tickles!

I used the Picot Panel die to place my sentiment on - the USA DT ladies got their lovely new Pretty Panel dies and us Euro ladies are a little jealous - ours have not arrived yet...fingers crossed for tomorrow... :)

...New for October - Flurries and a giveaway!

Good evening folks - how are you? We're getting the WMS October stamp release underway and tonight the Design Team and I are bringing you samples showing a new 6x4 stamp set called Flurries. Flurries will be available from the WMS store from 7:00pm on Tuesday 28th - our new static release date.

This set is packed with possibilities and all my samples this evening revolve around only one or two stamps from the set - it's the sort of set that encourages you to play with your inks.

Before I show you my samples, here are the ladies who are previewing with me today, can't wait to see what they have created! Don't forget you can see all the DT cards in one place here on the DT inspiration blog.

Giveaway

If you like the look of this set why not enter our giveaway - simply help us spread the word by sharing this post on Facebook or pinning some of our new release samples to your Pinterest boards - leave a comment here to tell us what you have done to spread the news. It's not limited to Facebook and Pinterest, if you have another avenue to help us get the word out, simply use it and let us know what you did by commenting on this post. One random entry will win this set. The winner will be drawn from the comments here on Tuesday evening, just before the release opens - good luck!

One of the stamps in this 26 piece set is this row of trees, if you are thinking  that they look a little familiar that's because they are related to the snowflake one die and also to some of the snowflake stamps that give this set it's name - Flurries.

I included some tear drop shaped stamps in the set that can be used to add colour behind the tree branches, this is a shot of my little row of trees half coloured.

There are also single trees in the set - added flexibility.

I love this little row of stars - perfect for making little starry skies above the mini woodland. Here everything was clear embossed and then cream ink was wiped over.

It's kinda hard to stop stamping these trees once you get started, I love them in Autumnal shades.

Perfect for creating little Autumn forests like the one on this Thansgiving card.

This is a particularly versatile winter set - and I have not even shown you the snowflakes yet!
Hope it tickles.

...another peep at October release

I do love this set. We're beginning samples tomorrow and I'll be running a wee giveaway - do pop by!

...first peek at October

Evening folks! I have a peek for you! We have some new goodies coming on the 28th! I've been laid up with lurgy for the second time this month and so there has not been much action on the old blog this week, but I will have some things to bring you over the next few days as we get our October release underway.

Are you liking the new format? - the new static release date of the 28th and our smaller releases? I'm thinking it is going pretty well - it's taken a little getting used to and as always there are still improvements to be made, but I'm thinking it's worth it so that folks know what our routine is - the feedback I've had so far has been great, a lot of folks seem to like the static date.

Looking forward to showing you the new goodies, it's a fun release! I'll be back tomorrow with another peek and then from Saturday onwards we'll have some fabby inspiration for you!

...Boo to you! and a debossing tip

Folks did you enjoy the PJ party? I must admit I am only just getting started today - I loaded the post on Tuesday night and was able to hang around for an hour or so to make sure it was all going and then I went to bed, woke up with a wicked sore throat and temperature, ugh, had a small home from school sick also and spent yesterday pretty much wiped out on the sofa!

I had a quick look and the entries look fabulous and I'll be getting round all of them today! The random winner has been announced - scroll down - to see if it was you!

This card is quite simple, I found some fabby copper checked paper while i was cleaning up and took my cue from that! The Owl (A Great Big Owl)is quite detailed so I didn't add much, aside form a sentiment which I embossed in copper to pick up on the BG paper- quite liked it!

this card was atrial for the embossing challenge so I had added a little embossing using a die cut blank of the owl:

It can be tricky to stamp in a depression - so I stamped the image first

then I die cut an owl from a piece of scrap card (Great Big Owl die set),
and placed the negative shape over the stamped image
then I placed the die cut blank back in the hole.

I secured it with some tape, I'm using lo-tac masking tape here

then I ran it through the Grand Calibur - it gave a lovely debossing all over the stamped image, a very subtle frame effect.

Hope it tickles
Chat tomorrow!

OK, now we have the challenges, we have a couple of samples to get you going:

Challenge 1. Texturise it

Make a project featuring embossed textures, BUT we want you to use something OTHER THAN embossing folders...

My sample for this shows a snowflake embossed on the outside of a tag - I made this by cutting a die cutting a Snowflake One die, and then using the negative shape on the scrap as a mask for some embossing paste! I love how this works and I will try to bring you a quick tut in the next day or so.

I stamped Frosty (from Frosty in the Pines) on the inside - I kept the colours soft and folksy.
 From Claire

From Tosha,
I love how Tosha has used the Folk Art Snowflake die to get that great background pattern.

from Jeanne, I spy debossing!! I love the witch (Halloween Party) against the silver panel.

link your Challenge 1 Texturise-it challenge here:

Challenge 2. Snow is falling

Make a project featuring snow - you can either stamp a snowy scene, die cut a few snowflakes, add flock or glitter, any interpretation you like, but we must be able to recognise it as snow!

from Claire

I could not resist making a snow shaker - I spritzed a cream jute bottle brush tree with distress inks in green and once it was dry, I added some tiny snowballs that I cut from a ribbon trim. I made a tiny garland using the grommit shapes - a star and a circle from the folding tag die set. I strung these on some cream twine and wrapped them around the tree. My topper was made by die cutting two Snowflake Two dies and sandwiching them together - I left one pair of 'legs' unstick and popped them over the top of the tree. I sprayed the whole thing with adhesive spray (outside - that stuff stinks) and then I doused it all in glitter. Likey?

Challenge 3. Old Pajamas

Make a project using any of your older Waltzingmouse Christmas sets - The DT are using their Yonder Star stamp sets!

from Aneta - our Guest DT for September

from Jeanne - Jeanne has cleverly matched her Yonder Star set with some western elements from the Way out West and Back in the Saddle sets!

from Julia - love the non-traditional colours on Julia's card!

from Laurie - gorgeous inside and out!

from Karin - the white embossing is super on vellum - go on, try it!

from Tosha - that's a masterpiece background, in beautiful subtle tones!

from Anya - I love the strong layers on the star, with the soft creams.

Challenge 4. Bedtime Story Sketch

from Claire - Sassy robin from Warm Fuzzies - love this guy!

from Anya - Fabulous card - I love how Anya has framed the raven from All Hallow's eve!

An InLinkz Link-up

Good luck ladies, I cannot wait to see what you all make!
