...Blink and you'll miss it

Sooo many times folks have asked to see my craft space and I have always resisted because I knew, I just knew, that everyone would think that I must have a palatial studio with custom designed storage and oodles of stuff.

Well...I don't! This is it. 'Tis true I had the garage converted last year, but as grand as that all sounds, the garage was always rather small and so what I gained was rather a sort of galley shaped scullery type space...as you see above.

The only reason you are seeing this tonight is because I made a card and then couldn't find it and had to tidy up in order to locate it...I'm a messy crafter and it might be some time before the space is presentable again, so here you are...

What you can't see is a small desk on the left and a tall cupboard on the right, but this is basically it. It's not what you would call impressive, but you know what? It beats this hands down...this is what I was previously working out of....giggle!

Anyhow, I still dream of one day having an entire room that I can dedicate to crafting, and if we manage to move house at some point that might become a reality, but in the meantime, I consider myself quite lucky to have a space at all. When I remember what it was like having to drag out boxes of stuff int the kitchen and then clear up and put it all away to make dinner, it was a nightmare!

  2. I love your space. It seems roomy and functional. :) As for me, my space is how your old space was. I'm still working out of my master bedroom/closet. It works, though I dream of one day having my very own room, too!! :) Thank you for sharing.

  4. I agree with Joan...it's not the room you create in, it's the results that counts. Thanks for sharing your cozy space!

  5. I love your space. All those palatial craft rooms I would be afraid to mess up. The functionality of your cupboards - that I could have fun with!

  9. Looks like a great space Claire...mine is a dining room table with various bits and pieces spread throughout the kitchen and bedroom. I truly spend more time searching for my stuff than actually creating something! A room...we can dream...

  11. I love your fab little room! Your cupboards are fab, and it all looks so well organised too! I feel your pain in the descriptions of dragging stuff out then packing away, my craft area is my dining room. Needless to say we use it less and less now!

  13. I can't believe you ever managed to work on that tiny computer desk! Your garage space looks lovely to me - great choice of clear cupboards so you can see where you put stuff. However big a space you get - you still manage to fill it - trust me!

  14. I'm one of those craft on the table and attempt to clear up before dinner girls, so your craft space looks amazing!!! However, I think that if I had a dedicated space I would just let it get soooooooooo messy, knowing I didn't NEED to tidy up after myself! My hubby wants to move, and one of my requirements would be having my own craft space!

  15. Wow. Compared to you gals who use your dining room table, I feel SOOO lucky to be able to craft in my laundry room on my ironing board. That gets used MUCH less than a dining room table - least in my house!

  16. Ha ha! I totally get having to photograph it when it's clean! :) I love your crafty space, it looks lovely. I used to have a larger set up in my basement, but when I found I had other, ahem, "tenants" I brought myself upstairs, and have a very small space in a corner of my front room. But yes, it is SO much better than the kitchen table, where I too, began. Enjoy that lovely space! I sometimes dream of what it would be like to have a big lovely room...the fact that I've been in Nichole Heady's just knocked my socks off, but for now, I'll enjoy the space I have, and look forward to "some day" :).

  17. Claire, I think your new space is wonderful! Why would you need more? Your creations were fantastic when you had a tiny space and they still are!

  18. Lovely craft room Claire we are all dreaming the same dream a craft room all to ourselves. I too like many others use the dinning table to create clear up when its dinner time and move things in a pile while kids finish their homework. Yes by then things have gone missing or fallen behind something forever searching for stuff which is usually in carrier bags from the last craft fair. Ah one day I will to have my craft heaven.

  19. Thanks so much for sharing! It is lovely!

I too started on my kitchen table but have graduated to a space in the basement that I am re-arranging currently and building a nice big crafting table out of 2 bookcases and a door for a top.
It will be fun to have more space to craft on!

  20. Wouldn't it be perfect to have a room right next to the kitchen so we could pop back and forth at will? Gosh that might sound horrible to read that out loud - but it would be the perfect solution for me!!! Somehow I see you running back and forth from the house to your converted crafty cottage to get it all done! God Bless You!

  21. So fun to see your crafty space!! I've been waiting since your posts where you talked about loosing power because of remodeling!! You're right, it's not big: looks about as big as my space, which REALLY is in the garage, which is not remodeled, but I chose it because of the same troubles as you: having to pick it all up from the dining room table in order to have dinner!! Luckily I'm in Calif, and we did insulate the garage so it doesn't get TOO cold in the winter, (though when I get cold I sometimes turn on the dryer to generate a little heat!!). The summers can get quite hot though!! Some nights I'm stamping with the garage door open at midnight to try and catch a breeze!! Thanks for sharing your photo!! Part of me is glad to see that you are out of the tiny desk you showed, but the other part of me is glad to know that I'm not the only one crammed for space!! :-P Hugs to you
