...Introducing Boo and Friends

Evening folks -  are you all vintaged out? yep? lol, well we have something different now for you - a total change of pace - we have some cute Halloween characters for you.

Here are the DT ladies - there's another new set called A Great Big Owl previewing tonight - I'll be back with him later on...

This set is called Boo and Friends and I'm going to go right ahead and pop up the whole set image here for you this eve - I know we don't normally reveal all 'til release day, but I can't properly introduce you to these guys unless you can see them all at once - aren't they cute?

Boo is a ghost - she's the little ghost in the top left hand corner of the image below - and those guys are her friends. They are all ghosts who love to dress up for Halloween! I loved the concept of a Halloween ghost actually dressing up for Halloween.

Here at WMS we have always gone down a more traditional path at Halloween and this year I thought it might be fun to add some cuteness (roughly translated - this means my kids twisted my arm for some cute Halloween stuff that they could use themselves...)

My cards this evening feature the little ghost witch and the vamp - The sentiments are from another new set called Peek-a-boo Sentiments - a bunch of punny Halloween sentiment that work great with the images in Boo and Friends, because we all need a little corny right? So easy to trim out a dose of these with the matching dies which are available as singles so you only buy the ones you need. I stamped up a few backgrounds with the Zig Zag backgrounders and Reverse Crackle Backgrounder.

There are dies to match all those characters and each die has a little bonus die attached - I will do another post to show you how to get the best from those.

Hope these tickle! I will see you later on with my great big owl!!!

...Not on fire...

Yep, I was on a Halloween bent last week, and since I haven't had much crafty time this week, this is all I have got for you today! My apologies if you are trying to enjoy a rest-of-the-year-free summer! What started out as a simple tag ended up creating a whole ethics debate in my house. Thinking it'd be cool to sponge orange in behind the witch image I was congratulating myself on creating a visually well balanced tag when over my shoulder the voice of my youngest floated - why is she on fire?....

So for the benefit of all you folks who may be wondering, she is not on fire, she is standing in front of her campfire, you just can't see her bubbling cauldron because of her big skirt... good grief....

Stamps I used were: Halloween Party, Pinstripe backgrounder, Hocus Pocus, Fine Feathers and Fine Feathers dies, Stitched Tags die set.

Hope it tickles!

...the witch

In the same vein as the vampire card (geddit???) I made this one with the witch from Halloween Party and the new dies - scroll down to the previous post, we loaded some new dies to the store this week!

The paper was lovely, but there was a little resistance to ink on the white pattern, I would have liked to have been able to mute that a little more - I did sand it down, which helped a bit, but I should have tried harder! It's still a little too busy! Anywhoo...

So if you get our newsmails you will definitely want to open the one I'm sending out this evening! (wink!) Folks receiving our mails will be getting first bite at the cherry, so to speak....

chat soon...

...New dies in store, The Count, Halloween Party Witch, Ocean Bound...

Just last eve I got a delivery of dies that I have been waiting for - I'm super excited to add the new 'The Count' dies to the store (matches The Count Stamp set) along with dies for the Halloween Party Witch and two sets of Ocean Bound dies also. you can click the images below to get to them in the store.

I went ahead and popped them in-store this morning because quite frankly our next release is too big already... there will be more info on this in our newsletter which will go out shortly.

For my card today I used the die to cut a 'window' in the lovely patterned paper which I am using as a card front. I sponged and scuffed it for a little shabby chic. I simply stamped himself onto some smooth white card and popped him in behind the window. A very simple panel was cut with a ruler for the sentiment - I love how the 20's inspired font on the trick or Treat sentiment from Gracie at Halloween looks just like it was made to go with this guy. I distressed the panel and little and simply stuck it on.

If you look close at The Count's cape, you will see that the wee clasps are actually silver metal - I discovered that the flat ends on some jewellery findings I had stashed away were the exact perfect size and so I snipped them off and stuck them on the card - I have a couple of little tips for this below if you plan on doing something similar.

I used one of those long pins, with a flat head - you can see that I have a dark copper one laying here on the red foam beside a die cut of The Count

After I place the pin in the pliers and BEFORE I snip, I place a piece of sellotape over the flat pin head - this stops the flat head pinging off into oblivion when you snip.

Once you have snipped, your flat metal pin head will be easily located on the sellotape, take it from there with a pair of tweezers and apply to the counts lapels.  The flat head may well have a little stalk still attached and so it's a good idea to pierce the image with a pin to give the stalks something to bed into. I pierced, then applied glue to the image and then pushed the little metal pieces into the image, I was able to wipe away excess glue before it dried. I recommend a very strong glue for this.

Hope it tickles!

...New for September - Vintage Witch

ED - This competition has now closed.

ED - I can't believe it either Kerri, I must be missing a vital, common-sense brain function...

Good morning folks, my samples are all super simple this week since I am still up to my eyes in packing, but I look forward to the day when I can play a little longer with these images.

A real 'live' Vintage Witch - she is already over 150 years old and she's the kind of gal who will never really go out of style, given that she's pretty much perfect, for a witch that is...

I stamped her simply in black on a tag and edged that tag with black distress embossing powder.

I got to like her more and more while I worked with the image to translate it into stampable graphics, check out that chin!

Halloween is going vintage this year at my house in case you had not realised and this is the main image in the Vintage Witch stamp set due for release on Thursday evening. Can't wait for the reveal!

DT ladies previewing with me today are:

Sure hope these tickle - and I'd really love to know - so leave me a comment here on this post telling me which looks like your fave set so far and I will randomly draw a lucky winner to win their choice of set from the new release! draw will take place this coming Thursday and winner will be posted at 6;00pm my time, just before the release takes place.

...New for September - The Count

Good morning and welcome to day two of the release previews - We are launching 8 new stamp sets on Thursday and this card shows the largest image from the new mini set 'The Count'...ok hands up who was thinking Sesame Street....

I was itching for a little old world glamour and so I created this silhouette image of what I imagine the Count would look like, I have made him a Victorian gent and given him a certain swagger, which I think is befitting the character, at least as I see it.

Perfect for ushering in a more refined and stately Halloween, the sentiment is reminiscent of a calling card and after all, The Count must request an invitation as he can't come in unless you ask him....

I stamped him in Chateau Grey from Versacolour which is an especially good 'breed' of ink to use on large silhouette stamps such as this one, in fact I find Versacolour good in every situation except where you wish to use copic markers.

I masked areas of the sentiment so that the name could be inked in Burgundy and the rest of the words in black. Simple card, but suitably chilling I think!

Can't  wait to see what the ladies have up their sleeves for today!

Hope it tickles!

...handy dandy sugar candy

Howdy! I have a wee post today about my Blog party project a few days back, I made over a little basket with some black ribbons and filled it full of wee treat pouches like the one above.

I've seen things like this all over in both blog-land and in stores and it's such a neat little thingumajig I wanted to make up a template for it. If you are even remotely from the same gene pool as me, you have no time at all to fritter away on making elaborate things to just hand out freely at Halloween. I don't mind spending time on something that is going to remain a piece of home decor, or be given to someone special - who I know will keep it! As for hand outs that I aim to give to the trick or treaters who call at the door, I need something snappy! Minimal input, maximum output.

If you know what the official name for these wee twisty boxes are, spill, until I know better I'm calling them Twist Pouches!

For my samples I cut them out on the Silhouette Cameo at 90% size, I was able to get two out of an 8x8 sheet of patterned paper. Because I made these with my fave Graphic 45 Halloween papers, I might in fact just keep them as 'prototypes'... but this is a fabby way to use up all those patterned sheets you have just lying around fading in the sunlight.

Once you get the side flap stuck they practically fold themselves up. I have included the folds as dashed lines so that you can see where they fold easily. They turn out the shape of those old mint humbug sweets.

Get your free template here in the freebies section at the store.

Knock up a few dozen in less than an hour, fill 'em up with either tricks or treats, hand them out! Everybody happy, I feel like mum of the moment and I also have time to get ready for the next release....more on that upon the morrow! (can't wait!)

I added vellum panels to mine that I had stamped with greetings from Hocus Pocus, but you can add lace or ribbons if you wish, plain or fancy, they are such an interesting little shape that you really can't go wrong.

Hope they Tickle!

...Hallowe'en...

If you celebrate Halloween, I wish you a happy and safe evening, if not, I have a little story for you anyhow. It's been an eventful week here with a close relative ending up in hospital so there's not much by way of craft to share with you, but I took this picture one summer in Ireland and I was reminded of the story to go with it as I was looking through some pictures earlier...

If you believe in such things, there is a house in Ireland where strange things happen, I'm not saying that this is the house. It might be, but then again, it might not.

It might be the case that the house lay empty for over 80 years, and that nothing in it changed. It may well be due to the remoteness of the place that nothing is missing, nearly a century after it was abandoned. Tea cups still sit on the dresser, paper still lines the walls and curtains still hang. The glass in the windows is unbroken, the chimneys still stand.

The northern Donegal coast takes a beating from high wind and a few of the roof slates did eventually give way, but when Michael presses his nose up against the glass, he can still see the dining room table is set for dinner. He imagines the mice have a quare time of it here, but then, there is no evidence of mice, no gnawing of boards, no scratching of floors. No birds nest in the gutter. No cats prowl. Nothing alights on the roof even though the nearby trees are alive with rooks.

A quarter of a mile away is a school, a village, a community, liveliness and noise, but here there is silence, always silence.

Michael visits regularly, intrigued by the oddity. He imagines buying the place. Such potential, it would be a fabulous home. Beautiful fretwork on the bargeboards, high ceilings, generously proportioned rooms. Yet, he is unable to discover who owns the house. He contacts all the local auctioneers, but nobody knows, he speaks to the folks in the cottages nearby, but again nobody knows who owns it now.

Turns out that it once belonged to a Minister, reputedly from Scotland, but no-one can remember what happened to him. He is remembered to have been a colourful fellow, often in the company of women of substance.

Undeterred, Michael talks to his solicitor in Dublin who agrees to look into it for him and a a year or so passes before he hears any news.

Inbetween times Michael visits the house at least once a month, driving up alone from Dublin and staying at a local B&B, doing a little fly-fishing and taking some photographs, the surrounding area is quite beautiful and Michael feels at home. He feels he has found his place in the scheme of things and is getting impatient, indeed anxious to buy the property and have it restored. He has an eye for details and often takes photos around the house. He has the time to indulge his dreams as Michael is not married and is in the happy position of being a man of independent income, his mother Isobel having been the last of the Kilkenny Butlers, her entire wealth passing to him, her only son, some years before upon her demise.

He has not dared enter the house, simply because it is locked, no windows are open and no doors are ajar. Breaking the glass to gain entry would be beneath him and so he explores the house only with his eyes from outside. The main entrance to the house has been fully concreted and Michael mourns the loss of what must have been a magnificent doorway, but never mind, he will see that it is fully restored once it is his.

His favourite room is the dining room, the heavy oak furniture is still intact, and must, he hopes, come with the house. The very plates are still on the dresser and must be worth a few hundred pounds on their own. Not that he will sell them, they belong here, just as he feels he does.

One Friday evening after a particularly nice drive up in warm sunshine Michael is rather uncomfortable to notice a newspaper lying on the dining room table when he looks through the window. He had not noticed it before, and feels sure that he would have. He can see no evidence of any of the doors or windows being opened and so he decides that he must have simply not noticed it before. Its presence bothers him and he goes back up to the house after dinner to take another look. The newspaper is folded over but he can just make out a photograph on the front. It shows an older woman in what looks like old fashioned mourning dress. The lady's features are hard to make out, the writing impossible, so Michael, upon whom no grass grows, as his mother was fond of saying, decides to take a few photographs.

Just after lunchtime on Monday in his Dublin home, Michael pops his head into the office of his personal secretary and asks James if he has been able to glean any details from the photos that were taken over the weekend. James, who is sitting in front of a 24 inch computer monitor turns to Michael, open mouthed, revealing a digitally enhanced image of an August 2011 newspaper on the computer screen, The image is of a Mrs Isobel Butler and the caption records that Mrs Butler mourns the passing of her only son Michael in a tragic accident during renovations at a Donegal Manse.

Michael never visits Donegal again.

And here are the New goodies for September

Please note ladies that the Say it loud Winter holiday is a larger set and the other three are small sets, I have slightly changed the way I display the drawings so that you can see all images at the correct angle. I used to display the sets as they were laid out on the carrier sheet, and given that I love to stuff as many stamps into a set as I can, some images appeared at odd angles or even upside down!! From now on everything will be shown right side up, so it will not always be obvious at first glance what size a set is. Please refer to the descriptions as the size is noted there.

...Waltzing

Ed - we're also in the middle of a big ole release - 4 new sets are being released on Monday and the DT ladies have some samples to whet your appetite!! I will also have some samples later today so pop back and see us again!

Good Saturday....ahem.....morning!!!

It's Blog waltz day today at WMS and I'm playing!!!! woohoo, see my previous post here, for how to play along!! You still have time, if you can squeeze out a card today....

Our theme this month is Halloween!!!!

On my card for the waltz I used two new sets (both releasing here on the blog on monday, two sleeps!!!) Hocus Pocus and A Cottage Home.

A Cottage Home was the set the DT ladies previewed yesterday. It's a sweet little set, but don't be fooled into thinking that you can only use it for 'new home' projects! I can picture many projects that could use a little cottage imagery and I've been itching to make this card since I got the cottage in my hot little mits!

I began by stamping a cottage and rubbing it with a clean sponge (NB - I used Tea Dye distress ink - On the second impression - which means I stamped it off on a scarp of paper first and used the remaining ink to stamp the cottage onto my sheet of cream card.) I then sponged over, very lightly with some Chipped Sapphire distress Ink. I love how this stuff Doesn't dry too quickly, meaning you can play around a little.

Here's what it looked like. Quite ghostly, don'tcha think? OOh the windows I filled in with copic E43 Dull Ivory.

Next I trimmed it out with a large and gloriously proportioned Labels 20 Die Template from Spellbinders. TM. I used Big Bertha, my Grand Calibur :) I seem to have a need to name this machine and previously may have called him Red Henry or something, but lately it's Big Bertha...

And here we get to one of my most favourite things about Spellbinders dies, you can leave the die cut in the die, and sponge away till your heart is content!! (More Chipped Sapphire, applied with a light touch)and when you take out the die cut? a gorgeous un-sponged border....can you tell how happy this makes me???

And! Guess what? if you aren't finished stamping, you can slip the die cut back in the die and add some more detail - I stamped the spooky railings and gate from Hocus Pocus across the front of the house. I used the Chipped Sapphire ink again as I love the colour and really don't mind the slightly 'rough' stamped image this gives. I thought that this put the railings on the foreground and helped the house to slip back into the shadows. The railings are my intended focal point.

I also added a little foliage to the card at this point (tho you can't see it in this photo) a few light impressions with the tip of a bough from Festive Foliage was all it needed I thought, 2nd impression stamping with pumice stone ink for these.

Finally I added two little ravens, both from the Hocus Pocus set, I thought these fun little guys just added the right amount of life to the scene. The sentiment "beWitched" is also from Hocus Pocus, also the 2nd impression using Tea Dye ink., and if you peek again you will see Wanda's broom, leaned up against the railings!! I love this card!!

I mounted the panel on a beautiful mat made from a piece of dark blue card trimmed out with a labels 17 Die Template, also Spellbinders. My actual card base is an ordinary plain card base with about an inch trimmed off the side and bottom and simply adhered to the back of the panel.

Hope it tickles!! Can't wait to see who else is waltzing!!

ALSO!! I will be back later with some samples!!! The ladies are all very well organised and are ready to show you there goodies!! Me? as usual I'm late!!!
