...weather...

I have a neat wee project I was hoping to share before i start the December release but would you believe I have not had the opportunity of photographing it!! lol, yesterday was too gray and today was glorious but I was out and about all day and couldn't be home in time before sundown! aarggh! maybe tomorrow!!!

And spare a though for all those poor waterlogged folks in Galway and Cork, among other Irish places, it's pretty wet down there and many folks seem to be losing homes and businesses!

Just a wee note about Christmas delivery! If you are anywhere other than the UK and were hoping to place an order in my store for things you would like to have BEFORE Christmas, it might be an idea to do it now. The Royal Mail postal service tells me tat 10th December is the last posting date to USA and overseas to get things by Christmas but between you and me, I think that might be cutting it a bit fine...

I'm hoping to have the next stamp release out around the 5th but I'll post on this page soon as I can confirm!!! WOOHOO two new sets coming!!

...a quick place card idea

So, if you have the Seasons of Love - Tags set, here's a quick idea for place cards!

Stamp a star from the Tags set and simply add the name of your guest to the centre! I inked up my star stamp in rhubarb Memento ink and then went round the edges with a Memento green, the name of which escapes me, if you must have it, pop a comment!!

For my example I have used part of a stamp from my next release (hopefully early December) to make my place card for 'Dad', if I put my husbands name on it, my kids are likely to ask who Des is? they're still small enough to know him only as Dad!! lol.

I think when I make these for real, I will just hand write the names on, or you could computer generate them and punch them out using a 1.5 inch circle punch - they'll fit perfectly in the centre circle of the star!

I stamped a Merry Christmas sentiment and decorative motif (also from the Seasons of Love - Tags set ) above the 'Dad' to finish the front. I stamped them with the second impression of the ink which leaves a lovely pale impression of the ink colour.

Stamp two more stars and add a snowflake or other stamp to the centre circles and cut all three stars out using the co-ordinating Spellbinders Die - from the nestability stars set.

Score the two other stars right down the centre, leave the star containing the name alone.

Fold the scored stars over and stick them together on one half only - the two remaining 'free' halves get stuck to the back of the name star - in this way you provide a back post to help the place card stand up. I chose to fold up a tiny piece of each of the back 'legs' up so that the star could lean back slightly - you'll see what I mean if you scroll down to the last photo.

A little ribbon and a button and you're done, very quick, very easy and I thought they were quite pretty and would look good all around the table with their wee tufts of ribbons sticking up! LOL!

From the side.

From the back.

Hope it tickles!

...Happy Thanksgiving

To all my American buddies and customers, I wish you all Happy Thanksgiving!! Tonight I'm very thanksful for the fact that my son's hospital appointment went well today!!

Waffle

Ever buy anything and then instantly regret it?

Today I took delivery of new window blinds, my old ones were literally falling apart. We operate on a replace-it-only-when-it-causes-acute-embarrassment basis. We don't have a mountain of funds for household maintenance, don't get me wrong, I'm not crying poverty but we knew the going would be a little tough while one of us was at home raising little folk - I expect most of you are in the same boat.

So this month it was time to finally do something about the blinds. I'd love to do without them completely but we're well within view of anyone who cares to turn around. Indeed we once had a neighbour across the street who used to toast me with his glass of wine from his front window in the evenings while I fed my daughter in the dining area at the rear of our house...

Feeling lucky, I was delighted when the guy arrived with the blinds, very polite, everything beautifully fitted, even managed to bag the fabric I wanted at a terrific price. I thought clean white would be a nice change from the cream we'd had before. Nothing, not at all one thing, to do with my aunts' casual comment that cream blinds looked nicotine stained...

Spent 5 mins hoovering the drill dust up and relaxed with tea, smiling at my good fortune, before popping out to get small folks from school and then over to the hospital for Little dude's appointment.

Nothing prepared me for the fact that upon my return, in the dark, my house looked like it was radio active.

I kid you not. There seems to be some sort of UV attractant in the fabric that glows an eerie kind of blue whiteness in the dark. I believe we may be visible from space. I just saw a satellite come back for another look. Keep an eye out for it on google earth. They're gonna have to go...

...today's quick card!!

I cheated heavily on this! I used a wee gingerbread man panel that I had previously made and threw some ribbon around a piece of card!!

My gingerbread man is from the Oven fresh Gingerbread Joy set that is back in stock today in the store, Snowflake from Very Vintage Christmas set, also back in stock today!

I stamped and sponged while that circular bit of card was still in the circle spellbinders die. Added the sentiment after, and some stickles for buttons!

I just bought a couple of punches, fiskars, and I'm not sure if i like them, they cut paper fine but I was kinda hoping to use them on card too! lol.

The red gingham ribbon came from my local grocery store last Christmas! The black and white gingham is Offray I believe!

RE: the previous post! Many thanks for asking...

BTW - thanks for all the fab solutions for my cuttle-bugbear in the last post! excellent! I'm all set!

Also - Wellies - are Wellington Boots! rubber boots/galoshes?

"Cuttle bug on part of card only" - I'm no such genius - I just used a cuttlebug folder that was just a wee border - they are small skinny folders designed to only emboss part of the card!!

Yes, the ink still manages to stain the versamark pad, but I keep two - one for 'dirty' work, where I know the pad will get stained and a 'clean' one for stamping patterns or clear embossing! Hope that makes sense!!

...Happy holly days!

Since I started the stamp company, creating time is stretched and just gets thinner as time goes on. That's the one drawback. I find I'm in stamp drawing mode and then I want to make a few cards and the mojo needs warming up a bit! lol

Anyhow, something I want to start doing for myself is to make a 5 min card every day!!

Admittedly this took more than 5 mins, maybe got as far as 15 but it was quick for me, I usually take eons to produce a card. I can spend a whole evening making one card...lol

So I'm challenging myself to produce something fast every day! this'll be interesting...you may or may not get to see! lol!

I used one of the dotty frames from Vintage Labels No.4 to make the panel. I trimmed it with the co-ordintaing Spellbinders die. I stamped my sentiment in the blank space and then stamped a flourish from Seasons of love Tags over the top - I inked up my stamp in pure poppy, then cleaned it off! then inked it in versamark and stamped to get this lovely muted, distressed flourish image, in a very pale shade of the red, love that wee trick!

Holly leaves and heat berry from the Sewing Box Christmas set, I stamped the holly berries on the cosmo cricket paper and cut out the inside image, discarding the outside line, I love how the Sewing box images can be used in this way. Little bit of glossy accents on the berry.

Used a cuttle bug embossing border twice on the background panel, not crazy about the resulting crease that the edge of the embossing folder leaves but it was too late to try to come up with a solution...another time...

Anyhow I leave you with a couple of pics of the forest park we visited yesterday. It's a fab time of year to go for a walk, so long as you have wellies! - It's Glenariff Forest Park in Antrim.

Had to take the opportunity to have dinner at the restaurant at the foot of the hills, you can watch the waterfalls while dining! I think it's my favourite spot in NI!!

Hope it tickles!

...random blinkie user winner!!

I just had time for a quick race through the list of folks who have popped my blinkie on their blogs! My apologies for not having time to comment!!! It's 1.30am here and it's been a very long day! lol!

I intended to pick a random winner myself but how impossible is that when i feel like I 'know' so many of you folks?!!!

so, I did what i always do and chickened out - the random number thingy led me to Lynne Phelps of this lovely blog:
http://savvy-sisters-studio.blogspot.com/

Congratulations Lynne and do pop me an email with your choice of stamp set and address!!

...can't resist!

I love this stamp set. It might just be my favourite ever. Which is ironic because I can't openly use many of the stamps!

If you want to see the other stamps in this set, pop over to this post to get the deets!

Anyhow, I couldn't resist using the tree and snowflake stamps from the set on this card. I inked up the tree in versacolour inks, Atlantic first all over the stamp and then dabbed around the edge with the khaki. I liker versacolour inks for this because the pads are spongy and you can get things blended quite well. I find this nearly impossible with some other brands of ink pads.

Then I trimmed out the tree and ripped a bit of Enchanted evening cardstock into a rough outline shape of the tree as a mat. I lay the trimmed tree down and drew around it onto the Enchanted evening cardstock, then I tore it roughly just outside the line.

I mounted this onto a panel of card that roughly matched the Khaki ink, random card from back of stash, sorry. I had stamped the panel with the snowflake image in versamark first and wit the sentiment also from this set, in Enchanted evening ink.

Popped a wee bit of ribbon around to give it a bit of zest and coloured in another stamped tree (copic marker), just the star bit, and cut it out to layer over the tree on my card. Would have loved a ginger coloured star gem...but don't have any! lol

And see that background? It's a fab wee herringbone pattern cuttlebug folder that I picked up recently to match some stamps from my next release....oops! tee hee.

hope it tickles!

...snowtime like the present!

With all that's been going on lately this is the only thing I got made this week!!!!

I'm itching to get at some stamps! Soo need to do more stamping this week!

Anyhow, inked up the snowman from Sewing Box Christmas, layered him as follows, used white card: first layer stamped in Enchanted evening ink , colored red with copic. Second layer stamped in Ocean Tides, stamped very lightly with versacolour pale blue ink with polka dot stamp from Off Beat Backgrounds. Third layer - hat - stamped in Enchanted evening ink onto Ocean tides cardstock.

Did the skinny tape and glitter trick on the hat to make a hat band.

Made him hold a little heart from the Sewing Box Christmas set. Which I glazed with my new possession! Ranger glossy accents!!!! ooh love this stuff!

Couple of page pebbles on top of the buttons (visit Bev at Precious scraps for these!).

Put the snowman on a panel cut with Labels 1 die and accented with a dotty border from the Vintage Labels 1 stampset, I inked up the outer dotty border only on the dotty border stamp. I also lightly stamped polka dots and snowflakes on this to give it a bit of grounding!

Papers are from Cosmo cricket mini stack Jolly by Golly and the ribbon is one I got from Bev ages ago and can't remember the name of!! sorry!

hope it tickles!

ED -- JUST BACK IN STOCK Vintage Labels 4, in the store now.

I'm very much on top of orders...but little else! if you ordered before 9.30am my time this morning, your order has shipped already, I'm not so on top of shipping notices, My priority is always to get the orders out and worry about paperwork after, I apologise if you are waiting on a shipping notice, your stuff is well on the way and there's every chance that you will get your goods before you see a shipping notice!

I am so delighted by the response to this release, thank you all so very much for all of the kind comments and lovely remarks. I'm snuggling up with hot chocolate and much paracetamol trying to stave off the cold that has ravaged everyone else in my house, and my mind is working overtime on ideas!!

So, here's what i'd love to do. I'm going to run a wee competition. If you 'find' anything in your house that has been made with the secret set, snap a photo and hold on to it. After Christmas I will hopefully have a gallery where folks can upload pics or maybe we'll use SCS, that can be determined later, but I will ask folks to upload these pics and there will be a fabulous prize for some lucky participant!! Sound like fun??

Also wanted to ask, Is it driving you all crazy that my releases kind of float? I was wondering about pinning it down to a particular date each month, do we like this? and what date is good for you? pop a comment here if you have an opinion on this, many thanks.

Hello and welcome to the release of 3 new stamp sets!!!

Important notice for Vintage label 4 waiting list folks!! - if you have not already placed your order for your reserved set, and would like to do so, now that the release is open, simply proceed as advised in the email. I am holding your sets unless you email me to say it is not needed, and please do let me know soon as there are some folks hoping! Many thanks.

The stamps are top quality, clear photopolymer, self sticking stamps for use on clear acrylic blocks (not supplied). Supplied on clear plastic with matching printed image sheet, all in a polybag.

Two of the sets you can see below, the other you must find by going back to the two posts immediately before this one!!! It's a secret set!!!Hurry! there's a competition on, it ends at midnight, you need to read the posts to see how to enter!! lol

Very Vintage Labels No.1 (Nestie Friendly)

Along the lines of the popular Vintage Labels No.4, this set co-ordinates with the Spellbinders label 1 dies. AAhh. Perfectly framed panels of loveliness!!

The top left hand image shows 4 concentric dotted shapes, this is one stamp but each border is easily inked up individually or in pairs to give a neat border for your die cut shape. See my blog for more on this.

I have designed this stamp to contain 4 different sized frames as a space saving alternative to 4 separate frame stamps. Also the fact that the 4 frames are together gives the stamp added stability and durability. I find the little dew drop inks very good for inking the borders separately, tho it is just as easy to wipe away any unwanted ink before stamping.

In the top right, you can see another double frame stamp, either ink up both or a single border depending on your project. The frame on bottom right is a separate stamp from the 'tag shoulder' within it.

A selection of ‘tag shoulders’ and ornaments compliments the set. All images and stamp designs are Copyright © 2009 Waltzingmouse Stamps, Claire Brennan.

Sewing Box - Hugs

After the style of Sewing Box Christmas, the Hugs set features images and sentiments suitable for every day usage. The stitch outline of these images makes them eminently suitable for those ‘good feeling’ warm wishes cards with a homespun feel. All images and stamp designs are Copyright © 2009 Waltzingmouse Stamps, Claire Brennan.

But you know what? I'm itching to make Christmas cards with em!! lol

To purchase either of these two stamp sets or indeed the Secret stamp set pop over to the store:

All sets retail at an amazing £13 sterling each - check out how many images and sentiments are in each set!! (approx US $21.29, Canada $22.81, Euro 14.12, Australian $23.68 - all values approximate as of 28th Sept and subject to change - source, XE.com)

TWO quick reminders!
Prices will be going up on the 5th November as mentioned on the blog 'Here in this post' . Hopefully this will give everyone a fighting change to get what they need before this happens!

And this release is being supplied with stamps from my new supplier. So if you are ordering a mixture of sets your order may contain two different types of clear photopolymer stamp sets, see more about this Here in this post.

And yes! - I ship everywhere, lol.

AND, can I just thank all my DT ladies!!! I am loving seeing what you all come up with and hope to be organised better in the new year so's you can ALL get the stuff in time for releases!! lol, a couple of my ladies didn't get their sets in time for this release, it was a tight squeeze. ...Take it away...Bing!

I just came back from a lovely trip along the Milky Way
Stopped off at the North Pole to spend a holiday
I called on dear old **********
To see what I could see
He took me to his workshop
And told his plans to me. So...
You better watch out, you better not cry
Better not pout, I'm telling you why...

Writer: Coots, J Fred/Gillespie, Haven

All the time I was growing up, the soundtrack to Christmas in our house resonated with the tones of Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole...It still doesn't feel like Christmas until I have those old crooners crooning in the background and just the tree lit.

Thoughts turn to childhood and the magic that it was...and is.

In our house we always knew who Santa worked for, and it wasn't Coca Cola. It's the same for my kids. I'm not at all sure that the local Minister would completely agree with me but it's always been obvious to me that Santa is one of His right-hand men. It's a birthday celebration after all, naturally, there are gifts to be given out, but in our house anyway, He saw that it was the little children who received.

Families all over the world have their own celebrations, or not, as they see fit. I have no ideas on the many varied customs all over the world, and I seek to offend no-one. Folks are folks to me. I can only share with you what we did.

And if you would like to share a little more, have a peep at the third line of the song excerpt above. You will notice the asterisks, there are exactly 10 of them and they are there in place of a name. Figure out what it is and write it down somewhere with no spaces between words...you will need it tomorrow!

ho! ho! ho!

ps scroll down for today's other post with samples if you missed them!!!

...Oct/Nov release day 3

ED - many thanks for asking about the construction of the door hanger, I'll be delighted to do a how-to once i get the release over!! It's very simple but 3 pics will save me thousands of words!!

Oooooh people! I'm putting the finishing touches to the secret blog page just right now!!! lol, I have so enjoyed this set, I really hope you all take it in the spirit in which it is meant!! ITCHING to let you all in...there will be an announcement on the password and secret blog either this evening or in the morning!!!!!!

Made this wee card using more images from the Sewing Box-Hugs set. I'm hoping to release tomorrow evening!!!! I am just an ole scaredy cat tho' and don't want to open the gates till my last box arrives, much stuff arrived today, and is getting packed as we chat...DH...a treasure...lol.

Absolutely in love with that wee birdie!! Thought I'd make a wee nest for it out of some flowers, leaves and the handy bendy bar shape also in the set. There's two sizes of flower, although only one size is used on this card.

It's a very simple card, stamped in black (Memento Tuxedo) and coloured in copics. Cut out and layered some bits. Made up the scene on a black panel and mounted that on a green card base, the sentiment is simply stamped in black. Would have done all sorts to it but for the fact that little dude is icky! Needed mums lap.

A super quick and easy thing to make as a door hanger, or tree decoration (I have quite a largish tree, wink) is this 3 panel hanger. I used the Vintage Labels No1 stamp set also due to release.

I used the three 'tag shoulders' first seen in the Vintage Labels No4. set, and again, included in this set Vintage Labels No 1. It was Michelle who had the bright idea of using a 'shoulder' twice on a tag and I shamelessly pinched the idea!! lol, so long as you all pop over and tell her what a brill idea it was I don't think she'll mind!! lol.

What's good about the tag shoulders is that they provide a lovely decorative finish with a prepositioned place to punch out a hole for cord/ribbon etc. It's a beautiful detail easily achieved.

Each of the panels I made were stamped twice with a particular tag shoulder, top and bottom. The sentiments from Very Vintage Christmas and Seasons of Love - Tags were stamped in the same red ink.

Some ribbon and a couple of buttons and that's it! My apologies for the poor photos, I seem to have inadvertently pressed the 'make white blur' button on the camera...

In the panel below you can see that I stamped a dotty frame from Vintage Labels No1 around the edge after stamping the tag shoulder twice.

The panel below shows the large broad tag shoulder from this set, my fave!

...Oct/Nov 09 release day 2

Today I've got a couple of cards for you that use the new set Vintage Labels No.1. (Due for release in a couple of days here on the blog and in my store!) It's another set in the series of stamp sets that fit Spellbinders dies. I love the extra versatility these add to my huge (shhh!) collection of Spellbinders. By now, you will realise that the stamps are named according to the spellbinders dies they co-ordinate with. Labels No.4 goes with the labels 4 dies, Labels No.1 matches the labels 1 dies and so it will continue.

I particularly love this image, stamped in black and clear embossed, on this Holiday Wishes card. It's quite a versatile frame. For this card I just stamped the complete frame which consists of a 'feathered' outline that fits the die shape nicely and a smaller circular feathered frame inside it. The feathers are reminiscent of feather stitching patterns you find on quilts.

What's fab about it was that, after cutting out the label shape with the die I was able to colour the actual label with copics. The feathered lines break it up nicely so that colouring looks effective!!! I chose festive green and red and made it a holiday card with the addition of a sentiment and some holly from the Very Vintage Christmas set, already available.

I matted my label on a black mat trimmed slightly larger than the label itself.
I folded a little red ribbon into points and adhered it to the reverse before pulling red and white striped ribbon through the loops. Adhered that to a piece of sparkly green paper, mounted all on a black card.

Today's second card uses a smaller frame, a little vintage inspired frame. Her it is stamped in burgundy versacolour onto rustic cream card. Trimmed it out with the corresponding die. I then took a smaller die and cut out the centre making a little card frame. I cut out another of the labels in the larger size and stamped a snowflake and sentiment, both Very Vintage Christmas set, onto this. I mounted the wee frame on top to add a bit of dimension. Popped a button in between the layers at either end.

I stamped the snowflake in a sort of lime colour, because I liked the contrast and then scrabbled around looking for a piece of cardstock to match!! luckily I had a random bit! lol. I stamped it with the checquerboard stamp from Off Beat backgrounds and finished the edges with a larger label die.

I popped this all together on a piece of scarlet cardstock that I had run through a holly leaf cuttlebug folder and mounted it on a card.

Hope they tickle!!

I'll hopefully be back tomorrow with some more samples!!

I am hoping to open the release very soon. I had planned for monday but the customs hold up is a bother. I really don't feel able to start until I have all my stock actually in my hand, but I've a few things to show yet so hopefully you don't mind looking at samples for a day or two!!!!lol.
