...wishing you all a very happy New Year

The pic is a thank you card I made with Nichole's recent blog hop challenge in mind - I was hopelessly bogged down in chocolate, fruit cake and wrapping paper and so didn't get to participate - this card sees the first of a large stack of Thank you cards that I need to make!!

I recycled a couple of clothing labels from a pair of jeans that my daughter got as a gift - the only stamping was the 'thank you'.

Anyhow - I just wanted to say thank you all for visiting - you all made a big difference to me in '08 and I'd like you all to hang around for '09 - I have plans - if the Good Lord spares me!

Hope you're having a great evening!!

...a very merry Christmas...

I hope you're all enjoying a very Merry Christmas! In our house it's not over till the 6th January!! I leave the decs up till the very last moment and we eke every last bit out of it, continuing to bake cookies, eat sweets, watch movies together etc!! It is such a precious time and too good to be wasted trudging through shops looking for things I have managed to survive without so far!! Lol - having said that I'm not averse to sale shopping on the internet (I'm getting ready to fill up my cart at PTI.)

The pic is my favourite Christmas decoration - a german Christmas pyramid that my husband bought me a number of years ago. It's sort of hypnotic and I could spend all evening looking at the patterns it makes on the ceiling as the windmilly bits rotate.

A couple of things to post in the next few days hopefully, if I can just prise myself off the sofa...

Very best wishes to all of you during Christmas and well into the New Year!!

...happy Chanukah

I had half an hour (ok maybe it was more like two hours) to throw a batch of these together for my Aunt who has about a million Jewish friends, they're not that polished but hey! it's something to look at.

Anyhow - Happy Chanukah to you if it applies, and may the light of love shine in your house this holiday season. In the words of the late Dave Allen (Irish comedian), "May your God go with you."

PS. If you like spooky stories, read yesterdays post!!

...seasonally reminded

A million years ago when I was eight, I went with my father to visit a kindly old lady that I'd always known as Aunt Ruth. She was no relation of ours but she treated us like beloved grandchildren all the same, taking an interest in our little happenings and always smiling.

I was used to seeing Aunt Ruth in the company of others - she was always at the homes of the other hunt members when we called to see them. ( My dad and the others raised pheasants and other game for 'the shoot' as it was called. I think she may have bean the 'real' aunt of two of the men in the hunt.) That particular day was the first time I had ever gone to visit her at her home - I believe she lived with her brother Davy, another kindly soul.

Aunt Ruth lived in a large rambling remote country house that was known to us as 'The Manse' and on the day that I visited it seemed to me that she and Davy occcupied only a very small part of the building. We spent the afternoon in cosy comfort infront of the range in the kitchen while my Dad chatted to Aunt Ruth and Davy. Milk and biscuits were abundant and as I sat munching I contemplated a pink potted begonia on the windowsill. Looking out, the day was mizzly damp with the kind of fine spray rain you get at this time of year, much like it was this morning when I was reminded of this story. The sky was grey and low and I was happy to be exactly where I was.

When it was time to go I gave Aunt Ruth a hug and smiled shyly at Davy and then we made our way out to the car. As anyone who has ever tried to leave a hospitable house will know, nearly as much talking goes on during the leaving as does during the visit, and being the good child that I was, I stood uncomplaining at the car.

I studied the windows of the house which seemed ancient to me, and I waved up at the two children who were looking down at me. The boy was about 10 or 12 and had dark hair and eyes and the little red haired girl looked about the same age as myself. They were smiling at me and then left the window and moved to the next one along that was a little bigger, I suppose they wanted a better view of the nosey little visitor. Aunt Ruth was always surrounded by children and it was no surprise to me that she was minding these two. It was no surprise at all that she was minding two sick children, as these two seemed, because they had on those long white sort of bed gowns that i saw illustrated in my copy of Peter Pan. Somewhere in the back of my head was the knowledge that Aunt Ruth had been a sort of nurse.

So I waved back and smiled and turned to Aunt Ruth who, for a moment, was not engaged in conversation. I asked her why she hadn't mentioned that there were children in the house and could I go and play with them for a moment.

I was a little offended when she laughed and said that there were no children in the house. I turned and pointed to them to show her where they were but of course. . . they were gone.

Hope it tingles!!

ED - the spookiest thing about this for me was finding out at a later date that Aunt Ruth was red before she was grey!!

...a quick post

Ed again! - I used a spellbinders long label die to get the shape - I first cut a folded double layer not quite all the way through to one side, to make card sape but I was unhappy with the folded edge so I cut one shap out of one layer of the same coloured card and stuck it to the front - this is the chocolate coloured card that makes the main body of the card - hope that helps!!

ED- I set the labels die face up on the cuttlebug plate and centred an oval die in the middle of it before layering on my Ripe avocado card stock and proceeding to cut. That way I get a nice frame shape. Hope that helps. The sentiment is on a cream oval cut with the same oval die. The edges of the oval die are rubbed with the chocolate ink.

A wee card - haven't finished the window cling box yet!! Lol. Must dash...Christmas is coming...

Supplies - PapertreyInk Silent Night and Merry and Bright stamp sets - dark chocolate and ripe avocado cardstocks, vanilla and dark chocolate inks.

...window clings anyone?

Apologies for the awful photo -I have double layer glazing which is a hames to photograph window clings on!!

Thought these were a nice idea for the girlies - I have made 6 in total (all with PapertreyInk's gorgeous winter stamp sets) but I want to wait till I get the box made before I show you the whole thing - outstandingly easy - simple stamping on window cling vinyl - I used Tsukineko Moonlight white Brilliance ink - seems to stand up ok to repositioning.

I'm concerned about the mouse.

Many of you kindly offered tips on how to catch the blighter - I duly purchased more traps and peanut butter - but there has been no sign of it since my last post, 6 baited traps remain untouched. Theories are the hot topic of conversation in my house - has it just gone?, is it holed up somewhere engaged in mouse multiplication? did it just die of overfeeding? my personal favourite theory tho' is that it has gone back to the fields to gather friends and family and spread the word that it has found the promised land.

Hope it tickles.

There has been ice, there was a little snow, there have been sick kids, laundry, presents to be bought but my biggest challenge this month is...supermouse.

We get one very year - they come in I know not where and we usually catch them within a day - this critter has outwitted us for TWO WEEKS. It has eaten regularly thanks to my husband who has plied it with chocolate, cheese, raisins, even cooked sausages - there is nothing that hasn't been in the mouse traps.

I thought we should buy new traps but he swears by his three old wooden ones. I said we should bait the traps with seeds and things that mice usually eat, he said I was talking nonsense and continued frying the sausages. I don't think mice are meat eaters. I asked him if he was going to give it a name, he didn't answer. It's now a personal mission with him. I give up.

In the meantime - here's a couple of cards I made last week and didn't get time to photograph - the light is awful at the mo - sorry bout that. I am currently in love with spellbinders label dies as you can see - the combinations seem endless for making frames. I used the wee cuttle bug embossing folder for the wee house scene and ran that lovely new vintage cream ink by PapertreyInk all over it. I also sponged it around the edges of my Ripe avocado frame. I think these look fairly self explanatory but if you need to know anything, drop me an email.

Hope they tickle.

...an itty bitty Christmas tree

For the spatialy challenged among you I have the solution - a teeny tree - I made it using my ribbon flower technique and I think it's quite dinky.

I used Heather's snowflakes from the Snowfall collection at PapertreyInk, absolutely love everything that Heather Nichols does.

The card is Ripe Avocado and Pure Poppy and the ribbon is Spring moss. Star stamps are from the Silent night and Holiday tags 2008 stamp sets also from guess where? yep PTI. Oh aye and a few stickles here and there.

I have a million ideas and no time - I expect you are all the same Christmas always comes in a flurry!! Lol hope you're all having a wonderful time.

Thank you to Debbie Olson - who tagged me - I'm getting right on it Debbie - you've been very kind and I appreciate it! - I may have to 'invent' interesting facts about myself tho!!

Hope it tickles
